Aston Martin 4.7 V8 Vantage Roadster

By Craig McAlpine

imotormag

When Vantage owners told Aston Martin that their car needed more ‘oomph’ Aston listened. Say hello to the new 4.7-litre 420hp V8 Vantage. From the outside there was certainly nothing wrong with the V8 Vantage—it’s a stunning-looking car, no matter which angle you look at it. I reckon it looks even better than its big brother, the DB9, too. Check out the full review with tons of pics!

Aston Martin DBS Volante on Video

By Craig McAlpine

imotormag

On the same day that I got to preview the Vantage V12, this was also getting snapped for AutoExpress. I must admit I was not quite as excited about the DBS Volante as I was about the Vantage, but with the roof down and your foot on the gas it certainly is pretty special. Shame they wouldn’t let me drive it before the show, and we were banned from filming anything ‘dynamic’ sigh.

Aston Martin V12 Vantage on Video

By Craig McAlpine

So in the run-up to Geneva our sister publication AutoExpress was doing some photography with the V12 Vantage. I tagged along (I even wore a shirt and trousers) and managed to get some video with the beast. It was a bit unfortunate that Aston did not let us drive it before the show, but they did drive it around a bit and let us rev the engine. It sounds awesome.

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Aston Martin only plans to build 77 examples of their new supercar, unveiled today in Geneva. The interior is still a secret, but we do know this thing will be the fastest and most expensive Aston ever, with a 750+ hp 7.3 liter V12 under the hood. Full gallery over at Autoblog.

Spotted this Aston Martin over the weekend. Does a car like this deserve to be patched up with duct tape? More pics after the jump.

Audi R8 Beats the Auston Martin V8 Vantage on CarDomain

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

This week’s Showroom Showdown started out close, but then the R8 really pulled ahead, winning by a 2-to-1 margin. I really like this photo of Ghost’s R8, which was part of Team Angry on last year’s Bullrun.

V8 Vantage vs. R8: Which Would You Choose?

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Let’s say you have $120,000 burning a hole in your pocket, and you want a classy sports car. Two options that come to mind are the V8 Vantage and the R8. The Aston Martin has the motor up front while the Audi is mid-engined, but both cars have V8s that put out 420 hp, and they both weigh in right around 3,600 pounds. So, which would you choose?

I always thought the Geo Metro was the perfect pizza delivery car. But now that Metros are so expensive, I guess people are switching to Astons… Via Autoblog

This Just In: New on the Net

By John Coyle

Editor

Well, if you saw Rob’s post yesterday, you know I’m not on the payroll anymore. And what can I say? It sucks. Being a CarDomain editor was—by far—the coolest job I’ve ever had, and I’ll sincerely miss working with Rob and Jen. But I always enjoyed writing this post, so I’ve decided to try to keep it up. Oh, and thanks for the kind words ¡sǝu, I appreciated them. Anyway, here’s the news:

  • Today, execs from the Big Three are going to try, again, to convince Congress to hand over $25 billion and bail out Detroit. Hopefully they’ll bring their "A" game, because some—like the pointy-headed geeks at Wired—think the Big Three should become the Medium Two. Wired
  • While it’s rough out there for every company, until now, the exotic marques had seemed impervious to the downturn. But it looks like the crappy economy is starting to effect every tier of the industry. Aston Martin just announced plans to lay off 600 workers. Autoblog
  • For those lucky customers that pick up a new ZR1, the General is going to throw in a free, two-day driving course at the Bondurant School. Since the new ‘Vette has over 600 horsepower on tap, a little professional instruction is probably a good idea. Motor Authority
  • Honda has never had an unprofitable year or lay off workers. But with numbers like these, you wonder how long that record can stand. Freep
