Here's the Bel Air the IIHS Wrecked
By Rob Einaudi

Here’s the star of that IIHS video, purchased for $8,500 according to the guys over at The Truth About Cars. I’ve seen a lot of comments about what appears to be rust swirling around in the video (a saw another comment that claimed that it was in fact the road silt and dust that collects in the frame rails and rockers on these old cars over the years). There were also questions about whether the motor was pulled (some folks pointed out that the straight six in this model was relatively narrow, leaving next to nothing between the front end of the Bel Air and the passenger compartment). And then there were tons on questions about whether the ’59 Bel Air in particular was selected cause the IIHS knew that old X-frame would fold up so nicely (and the fact that it was a four door makes it even more susceptible). Check out this video response on YouTube. Anyway, next time let’s see a 60s Imperial take on a Prius.

Beautiful '55 Bel Air in SF
By Rob

I was in San Francisco this weekend, and while getting an ice cream with my daughter at Mitchell’s, this incredible ’55 Chevy pulled up. I only had a few seconds to talk to the owner before the sugar high kicked in and my daughter dragged me away, but I did learn that it was originally a straight-6 car, and that it now has a rather healthy 327 under the hood. It was a long resto (he got the car in pieces) and the guy said he has over $60k invested. I can honestly say this is one of the nicest Tri-Fives I’ve ever seen. Here’s another pic.

Showoff of the Week: Ken's Chevrolet Bel Air
By John

CarDomain’s Showoff of the Week has seen its share of amazing transformations, and Ken’s ’57 Chevy is one of the most dramatic. Just check out how this classic looked when he first got his hands on her! Along with bringing her back from the dead, Ken’s made a laundry list of improvements, including a gorgeous candy paint jobwhich looks bottomlesssome fan mods to keep the old girl running cool and a spare tire set-up that looks better than most people’s regular wheels. Nice work Ken! Congrats!
