Ultra-Rare GM Prototype Bus Spotted At Local Show
By Jim Brennan
aka UDMan
My work as a factory representative for an import truck distributor takes me to a whole lot of automotive events, where my job is to talk up the truck brand that I represent. But in my downtime, I can’t wait to get away and wander the grounds a bit, and that’s when I’ll sometimes discover a gem like this one: one of only nine existing GM Futurliners. This ultra-rare coach is more than just a novelty—a Futurliner set records in 2006 by selling for $4.5 million at a Barrett Jackson auction. The coach pictured here is owned by Peter Pan Bus Lines in Springfield, MA, which completed its restoration in 2000. Congrats to Peter Pan chairman Peter Pickelly, and Bill Sinico of Coach Builders, who have done meticulous resto work and shown great attention to detail in bringing this bus back to better-than-new condition, right down to having custom-order castings they’ve ordered to reproduce the lettering along the sides and front. Still, there are some significant differences separating this ride from the original Futurliner, including an updated driveline. Enjoy the pics, and check out www.futurliner.com to read up on these incredible coaches.

Mooneyes 2008

The 22nd annual edition of the Mooneyes Street Car Nats was held this weekend in Tokyo. There was everything from rat rods to Mopars to crazy JDM rides. This "VW Bus" leaves me scratching my head–what the heck is it? I’ve got a ton more pics after the jump, and if you want to see all of them, go to HemiDave’s full Photobucket gallery. There’s also some pretty good coverage over at auto-otaku.com.

Bus Driver Mislead by GPS
By Rob Einaudi

I saw this on the local news Wednesday night but switched channels before I saw the images. Wow! Glad none of the Garfield High kids got seriously hurt. Apparently the driver put a little too much faith in the GPS, which took him on this route through the Seattle Arboretum. I didn’t see it mentioned in any of the reports, but there’s a slow right hand turn with a yield less than one-hundred yards from the low overhang–the idiot bus driver must have really punched it when he came out of the corner. To see what I mean, check out the little Google map Ari made for me after the jump. Full story with lots more pics at the Seattle Times.
