It’s A Diesel!

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor-at-Large

Another thing that’s going to be huge at SEMA this year? Diesel performance, and not just on trucks. This big mean Caddy puts a hot-rod spin on the trend, with a Viva Las Vegas-style sparkle top and a pretty burly turbo peeking out of a hole in the hood. I’m really looking forward to finding out more about this badass oil-burner. Check out more pics and video after the jump!

House of the Golden One

By Dan Strohl

Hemmings

Back when I was just a wee cub reporter hacking away at a keyboard for a daily newspaper in northwestern Ohio, I spotted in downtown Port Clinton a chestnut-colored Cadillac station wagon. By the time I returned to the spot with my camera, it had vacated the scene, and I never saw it again.

Now Steve Donohue, who lives in my former stomping grounds (and who owns the Belvedereamino we recently beheld), comes along with some photos of a Cadillac shooting brake which he spotted on nearby South Bass Island in the village of Put-in-Bay, and which recalls those hazy days of my youth. I’m pretty sure this isn’t the same wagon, but that didn’t mean I was sure what exactly it was that Steve spotted. Continue reading at Hemmings

OnStar Emergency: Too Much Horsepower

By Michael Berenis

Tampa Sports Car Examiner

A recent track test by Hennessey Performance of their V700 CTS-V package set off the OnStar emergency system thanks to a .99g longitudinal pull. This is the same vehicle that ran a 185 mph standing mile! The car simply has too much horsepower! I guess Cadillac didn’t think of the tuners when they designed the big brother alert system. Too much technology, not enough consideration for all possibilities. It doesn’t look good for the OnStar system, but it speaks extremely highly of Hennessey’s performance capabilities!  It would get mighty annoying if every time I launched my 700 horsepower CTS-V I was contacted by OnStar. “Just me again, no emergency just too much power!” Read more at Tampa Sports Car Examiner.

Hemmings Find of the Day: 1957 Cadillac

By Dan Strohl

Hemmings

I would like to steer discussion of this 1957 Cadillac toward its professional car roots: Was it originally a flower car? Why alter the roof? Who did the conversion(s)? And I’d like to keep the discussion right there, because, quite frankly, those clowns on the organ freak me out. Continue reading at Hemmings

The Standard of the World: How to Reinvent Cadillac

By Rich Truesdell

Automotive Traveler

General Motors underwent an unprecedented “engineered” bankruptcy this summer. As it is sheds divisions right and left, historic nameplates are being discarded and the company that once had over 50% of the new car market has lost the recipe. So what’s to become of Cadillac in the future? It needs to compete with the likes of Mercedes-Benz, Rolls Royce, Bentley, and the relatively new upstart from Japan, Lexus.

A new commercial, titled “Reignition” is a great start, but you really can’t run a luxury division with three body styles of what are essentially the same car, and an upscale clone of a Chevrolet crossover. The two-seat XLR sports car will be discontinued shortly, as will the STS and the DTS. The Escalade will live on though as pointless as it may be seen by many because America can’t seem to get enough of these rolling excesses. It has, over the last decade, been a very successful product in terms of sales for what was once the Standard of the World. But does it send the right message? Read more of my article at Automotive Traveler, and see if you agree with me.

The History of the Emblem

By Chris Borrelli

FordRulesAll

All car brands and certain makes have their own emblem. These emblems are more than just a flashy way to copyright something, there are deep histories and great stories behind them all. For example, the Cadillac logo was inspired by a family crest of the man who founded the city at the very heart of the American auto industry, Detroit. BMW’s logo was inspired by an advertisement of a spinning plane propeller. Check out the history of these famous logos and many more at Neatorama. Thanks again __nes__ !

Corvette Orgy

By Alex Vickers

Katakuna

Long’s Auto Sales specializes in Corvettes, Cadillacs and other classic cars. The best part about it? Each and every last classic car on the lot is un-restored, all original, all in excellent condition. The only beater on the lot was a C4 Corvette with its leather seats practically shredded.  None of the cars have more than fifty thousand miles. The one with the least mileage was a 1976 Cadillac Coupe DeVille “Maloney Coachbuilders” edition with just under eighteen thousand miles, and this thing was huge! My father parked his S-10 next to it and it was still twice as long.

The Most Evil Cadillac in the World

By Brian Lohnes

BANGshift.com

We were at Lead East last year, the epic 1950’s themed event held yearly in New Jersey, on a magazine assignment that never saw the light of day. Through the course of the weekend we saw hundreds, if not thousands of killer hot rods, muscle cars, and kustoms.

On our very last cruise through the show before we headed towards home, I was stopped dead in my tracks seeing this cool beyond words Cadillac idle towards me dragging its knuckles and scraping its chin. This car is evil personified. I never got the chance to speak with the owner, find out what it had for a motor, or even if it has an interior in it, but none of that matters to me. It could be powered with a one-cylinder diesel and I’d gladly trade an appendage to own it.

Travis Barker’s 1966 Cadillac

By Austin Knight

Gotadime

Blink-182 Band Member and Drumming Legend Travis Barker has recently been twittering about his 1966 Cadillac and I must say, it’s truly stunning! When I got the twitter update on my phone and saw those pics, I knew that I was going to have to share it with you guys. In his latest post on it, he said “It’s my 66 Cadillac, it could be yours this summer…that’s all I’m sayin’. Details 2 come”. So, without a doubt, I’ll keep you guys updated on the matter. For now, enjoy some eye candy. More pics after the jump.

The Cars of Queens

By Mike Musto

AKA: Mr. Angry

Queens, New York: my home. Today I was tooling around in the old Danger Van and started to notice all the old iron that is still roaming the streets. I decided to take a ten block survey from my house, and was quite surprised by what I found. Granted, I know the models, but many of the years escape me. If you know the years of the following cars, chime in as I’m kinda curious. Lots more after the jump!

1956 Cadillac Sedan DeVille

By DUB Magazine

Custom Car Culture + Style

Murray Pfaff, owner of Pfaff Designs, is best known as the creator of many of the coolest project vehicle designs (renderings) for other companies and individuals (like Sammy Hagar) to ever grace the pages of major magazines. However, the tables were turned when Pfaff decided to take his classic 1956 Cadillac Sedan DeVille, which he’s owned for 15 years, from rendering to reality, and make it available to his client companies for shows and special events.

So far, “FireMaker” (named because of its two-stage fuel injection system that shoots flames 20 feet rearward) has been showcased at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, the 2008 DUB Show Tour in Detroit, the GM Heritage Parade during the Woodward Dream Cruise in Royal Oak, Michigan and various promotions and displays by MTX, Goodyear, Optima, Ididit and Street Legal Customs. It was also filmed by General Motors for an online campaign on YouTube, featuring high-profile Cadillacs, when has been viewed more than 13,000 times. Continue reading at DUB Magazine

What Car Did You Ride Home From The Hospital In?

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor-at-Large

At one time, every one of us was a tiny, red-faced, screaming baloney loaf. And assuming that most of us were born in hospitals, there was some point at which we each took our first ride–in the car that brought us home. And what a scam that we can’t remember it! Rob made his way out of the maternity ward in a ‘63 Coupe DeVille  just like this one, which is probably why he went all mushball last week over the “fuzzy bunny” in the backseat. Ryan came home in a Vanagon, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he was born in it too. Weston claims to have cruised to his new digs in a low, all-black ’40’s Studebaker with tommy guns on it–yeah right. I took my first ride in either my dad’s ‘66 Fairlane or his ‘62 T-Bird convertible–I can’t get ahold of either mom or dad right now to confirm which.

How about you? What car did you ride home in, and is it still in the family?
