Over the past several days, I have written a few posts about the Callaway Cars open house that was held at their Old Lyme, CT headquarters in October. While I tried to focus on all of the unique vehicles at this gathering, there was not enough time (or daylight) to interview everyone, as well as photograph all of the breathtaking machinery gathered.

This post illustrates some of the other unique machines that were displayed, including cars that are owned by the company, vehicles about to be delivered to new owners, and others owned by folks that I never was able to track down. The Callaway C12 automobiles were produced from 1997 through 2001. They are production automobiles created in an attempt to win the GT2 class at Le Mans. In fact, the Callaway C12 took pole position in the class at Le Mans in 2001, beating Porsche, Ferrari and all other brands. Road car versions were homologated and produced in parallel.

The C12 project was a joint effort between IVM, a German automotive engineering services company, and Callaway Cars Inc. They were produced jointly by Callaway Competition in Leingarten Germany and Callaway Cars Inc. in Old Lyme Connecticut. Twenty cars, road and race specification, were constructed. The project achieved full vehicle manufacturer status in Germany. These cars were built to a standard, not a cost. They were optimized for the regulations at Le Mans. Today, they are still fast, beautiful and now, collectible. C12 ownership is diverse and initially represented by clients such as Dale Earnhardt Jr., Otis Chandler, Andrew McKelvey, and Tommy Mottola. Continue reading…
