SoundDomain Sound-Off for the Weekend

By Sean

  • What are the car audio shops in your area like? If you’re lucky, there’s one like JML Audio’s new facility. Based in the St. Louis, MO area, JML is currently in the process of building a new location that sets the bar much higher for all other audio shops in the area.
  • SoundDomain member Lary357j picked up a new Eclipse AVN6620 double-DIN navi-radio for his Lincoln SUV. He gave SoundDomain members some insight to the ups and downs of the radio, as well as screen shots of it’s MANY capabilities. Take a look and learn!
  • The wait is over! Alpine’s new IVA-W505 is finally shipping. By the time you read this, your dealer may already have yours!
  • This Sanyo Gorilla portable navigation device features a 7" screen, digital TV tuner, and 4GB SD card… But the coolest part? It actually tells you if you’re parking in a high-theft area!

  • MTX wanted to stretch their legs a bit in the marketing department and sponsored an MMA fighting group (mixed martial arts) last year. Well, the team continues to kick ass and take names, and fighter CB "Doberman" Dollaway has been invited to participate in the Ultimate Fighter Championship reality TV program on SpikeTV. Check out the details– this guy is a brute!
  • Automotive journalist and editor Rich Truesdell gave CarDomain readers the low down on the new Jag XF’s driving experience, but Rich is also an audio connesuier, and gave SoundDomain his thoughts on the amazing B&W sound system. Read his mind!
  • View Gate just introduced these new handlebar mounted speakers for motorcycles and motorbikes. If thats’ not the most annoying accessory you can possibly at to a motorcycle, I don’t know what is. Check out the stupid idea here.
  • I remember when I first saw my first Ground Zero subwoofer. It was about 10 years ago and I was blown away. They were one of the first companies to introduce the idea of the monster subwoofer- big-ass surrounds, HUGE magnets, and beefy baskets, all capable of handling gobs of power. They kind of disappeared after a few years, but I just found out they are alive and kicking over in Europe… Still big, still beefy, still bad-ass as ever

  • Whenever I hear somebody mention the "good ‘ol days" of car stereo, I naturally think back to the late ’80s and early ’90s. But after seeing this Norelco Auto Mignon underdash record player, I guess I’m going to have to start thinking back even further!
  • We broke the news on the new Audison Thesis Orchestra speakers last week, and we recently acquired some additional pics of these incredibly sexy looking (and expensive!) component speakers. The see-through dust cap that gives a clear view of the motor structure is pretty cool!
  • HzEmall customs has made some progress on their 1969 Camaro project car! The door panels have finally taken shape, and I gotta say they are many, many times better looking than factory!
  • Looking for something to get your mom for Mother’s Day? How about this Viper alarm /remote start with a pink remote control? Directed teamed up with the Susan G. Komen Foundation to produce a limited edition system with proceeds donated to support breast cancer research.

  • The Audison "bit one" sound processor is not even out yet, but it’s creating quite a stir among the car audiophiles on CarDomain and SoundDomain. It looks hot and is feature packed! But if you read the first post we put up, you may want to check out the most recent news on the bit one. It’s still all pre-production data, but we got an inside scoop on the feature list that’s most likely to make it to production.
  • SoundDomain moderator Richard Vedvik (keep_hope_alive) loved his older Alpine CDA-7930, so when the display started to go out he decided to simply replace the CD player’s display rather than replace the entire radio! Cool thing is, he documented the process on SoundDomain for all to see!
  • Jensen just updated their Free MP3 downloads section. Get the details here!
  • We stumbled on a cool comic satirizing the recent boom in portable navigation products. Be aware that all are not created equal!

DUB 2008 Tour Starts Tomorrow in the Motor City!

Air travel is really the only decent excuse for waking up early. After all, you get to go somewhere, and at least if you’re supposed to arrive two hours before your flight, the bars open at six. But I don’t even care about the fact that I had to get up at at the crack of dawn, because I’m headed to Detroit—Motor City!—for the kickoff of the 2008 DUB tour. While I missed the 2007 stop, I was on the ground in Detroit in 2006, and at SEMA, I talked to head honcho Myles Kovacs about what was hot wheel-wise. So I’m curious to see what heats up the floor tomorrow. In ‘O6 I liked this two-tone Charger, and as always, the audio gear in the bed of the Meguire’s truck made me dizzy. And while I know it’s two Chargers in a row, I really like how this Mopar from last year looks like a shark. Right now, I don’t know what the coolest ride I’ll see this weekend will be, but as soon as I do, I’ll post it on the blog. Also look out for interviews with David Banner, Nick Cannon and Llyod. Stay tuned—Motor City here I come!

What?! It’s the last day of the January? Where did the month go?? Oh yeah, I remember… CES 2008 and the relaunch of the new SoundDomain.com!
