Manly Van?

By David Clarke

Word on the street is that Chrysler is interested in selling more minivans to men. To most families, the minivan is the point of no return after exhausting the categories of smaller-cargo-capacity “cute utes” and massive SUV’s that are simply not necessary for normal-sized families. While the details of Mopar’s proposed man-van are sketchy, Dodge did tease a Caravan R/T back in 2008 at the Detroit Auto show. Sporting a “Rumble bee” type hood, a blacked-out grille and wheels that look just like the Challenger SRT’s burly 5 spokes, it does indeed look manlier than its beige monotone counterpart. But Dodge must know that looks alone will not sell a minivan to men. Being that the 3.8L V6 and 4.0L V6 drivetrains have plenty of room under the hood, I think a nice roots-style supercharger should be on the menu as well. Add some thicker sway bars, 18-20in rubber, and some vintage-style wild Mopar colors, and it’d probably be enough the blow the doors off the armada of beige, white, and silver baby carriers clogging the roads. Could Chrysler rekindle another minivan war with Honda and Toyota? Could the Caravan R/T do for minivans what the Magnum did for station wagons?  If Chrysler does decide to make an R/T Carvan, what would they have to do to make you want one ?

Shorty Caravan

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

There’s some things that, when you look at them, your eyes need to adjust for a few moments before you can figure out exactly what it is you’re seeing. Aaron’s Dodge Caravan, which has had 34 inches chopped out of its midsection, is one of those things. Visit the ride page for more views of this mini-minivan!

Real-Life Turtle Van

By Jen Dunnaway

Did you grow up with the Ninja Turtles? I did, and because of that, I cannot help but love the life-sized TMNT Turtle Van replica that Brittney made out of her Caravan. The sequences on pages 3 and 4 detailing the paint and the painstaking construction of all the turtle-related accessories are hilarious. Check out Brittney’s page!

I love how the dual sliding doors let you get a pretty decent look, however brief, at the engine setup. I also love that it’s still got the soccer-mom sticker on the back.

Turbo Caravan vs Trans Am GTA Dragstrip Showdown Tomorrow!

By David

aka Highspeedhijinks

Back on Valentine’s Day of this year I blogged about the owner of a 2.5 L Garret-turbocharged Caravan and his gentlemanly wager against a friend and his GTA Trans Am. Well, that race is near—it’s set to take place tomorrow, Tuesday the 1st. Here are their rules:

  • Best 2 out of 3 runs
  • No nitrous
  • No limit on work done before July 1st
  • Breakdown or sale of vehicle voids bet
  • Losing team pays winner’s track fee + $200 cash prize.

I think it’s going to be a hell of a race—stay tuned!

Jet Caravan Ready for Takeoff

By John

There isn’t much room left in this Dodge Caravan’s interior for groceries or car seats, but the jet engine certainly makes it a lot more fun at the track. Unless, of course, running eights isn’t your kind of fun. Just goes to show, a jet engine can make practically anything cool.

Haul-Ass Family Hauler

By David

aka Highspeedhijinks

Before I tell you what Nicholas is about to race against, let me tell you what he’s bringing to the party: he owns a 1989 Dodge Caravan Turbo with a few goodies up its sleeve. A short list includes: a rebuilt Garrett T3 turbo converted to TII specs, a T2 intercooler with piping, an Eagle Talon blow off valve, and an oversized tranny cooler from a Ram Van. All this is in the process of being installed as Nicholas prepares to race his friend Andrew and his Trans Am at the drag strip this July. If you take out your magnifying glass and read their signed race agreement, you’ll see that there’s 200 bucks on the line. There are not yet any specs on the Trans Am, but my best guess is that hes got an ’87 GTA with a 350 TPI. Personally, I think Nick can take him. Just check out this video of another turbo Caravan going up against a Camaro. Place your bets now: who do you think is gonna win this summer?

Think it can beat a Firebird?

Beyond Hideous: the Honda/Dodge!

By John

First, this isn’t a PhotoChop. This is the front of a poor Honda CB married to a truncated Dodge Caravan, and it’s obviously the product of someone suffering from advanced dementia. Doesn’t it kind of look like a junkyard threw up?  The eBay listing describes this monstrosity as "a real eye-catcher," and I agree. Of course, severe facial deformities, weeping head wounds, and t-shirts declaring a physical attraction to Dick Cheney are also real eye-catchers. But that doesn’t mean they’re good.
