Sweet Shelby Slot Car Track

By John Coyle

Since I thought Restoration Hardware was just a place to buy overpriced doorknobs and designer hammers, I was surprised to see this wicked Shelby slot car set on its website. It comes with a pair of cool little Daytona Coupes, but the thing I was really stoked about was its 63 feet—63 feet!—of track. A comparably priced Carrera set comes with a measly 25 feet, so while I’m wondering what the quality is like, given the difference in footage, I think I’d be willing to take a chance on the Shelby set. Can anybody spot me $250?

This Just In: New on the Net

Over the weekend, I watched the NASCAR race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and I really enjoyed it. I used  to be one of those people who talked smack about NASCAR, and most of the time, I used that tired old "they only turn left" argument. I’d like to take this opportunity to say that I was wrong, and that NASCAR is awesome. Here’s the news:

  • It turns out Bob Lutz isn’t the only one whining about changing environmental standards. The threat of new European emissions restrictions has Porsche worried, and the company is ready to fight.    Auto Express
  • This sounds like a great way to make some quick cash. The President of the Texas Motor Speedway has promised 15 grand to the first NASCAR who throws his helmet in anger before April 6th. Seriously. AutoWeek
  • The wife of the director of the original Gone in 60 Seconds is in a legal battle with Carroll Shelby over the use of the name "Eleanor." While Shelby has stooped to suing his biggest fans, it looks like he’s on the right side of this fight. LA Times
  • Ford sales fell almost seven percent in February. The bright side is they aren’t paying Bill Ford a salary. Oops, yes they are. But there’s probably a bright side somewhere. Freep
