Porsches Playing In Vancouver
By Jen Dunnaway

I was zoning out on this extremely pretty adver-mercial for the 2011 Cayman, when it hit me: no wonder the video is so gorgeous, it’s filmed in Vancouver! See if you can correctly identify four of Vancouver’s iconic bridges, the Expo ball (hint: it’s the ball), and Stanley Park where I used to rally my Escort GT in high school. Or just enjoy the cars. Victor sent this to me. I can’t read Russian, but Victor tells me this kit is from Status Design and that it will be available in October. See more pic here. Like it?

Porsche Cayenne GTS Design Edition 3
By Jen Dunnaway

I find the whole luxury-SUV thing to be a fundamentally goofy concept, but at the same time, I can’t help finding the new Cayenne GTS to be at least moderately badass. It’s murdered out straight from the factory, and it’s packing 405 horsepower and a six-speed. Not bad for a high-dollar suburban cruiser–but possibly not the best choice for four-wheelin’. More pics after the jump.

Trans Siberian Rally Cayenne
By Ron Honig
WaytooFurious
I was only going to give the Porsche stand a once over at the Melbourne International Motor Show. I am not into Porsche as much as I used to be, so I thought I would have a quick look and move on. Then I saw this great looking Cayenne and I had to stop. It has a 4.8 litre 90 degree V8 that produces 298kw (405hp) and it is controlled by a 6 speed triptronik gearbox. This Cayenne was raced in the 2008 Trans Siberian Rally by David Morely and Paul Watson. 2008 was the first year that they completed the rally successfully, after crashing on their first attempt in 2007. This lead to them calling their team “Unfinished Business”. One more pic after the jump.

New Porsche Cayenne Interior Spied, Panamera Similarities
Luxvelocity
Our spy has caught a mule for the next generation Porsche Cayenne, which looks like it is going to see a major update in the interior, along with some minor changes to the exterior. Looking at the interior spy shot one can see similarities to the Panamera ,which means lots more buttons and a shift lifter positioned higher for better driving comfort. What do you think of the interior layout? Too many buttons or is it the cockpit of your dreams? To check out the rest of the spy shots and the article visit Luxvelocity.com

Changing Times
It’s funny how the automotive landscape has changed. When Porsche released their Cayenne for 2002, the SUV craze was in full-bore. It wasn’t just a matter of keeping customers happy, but a matter of survival. Every lineup needed at least one SUV. Today, while most of the auto industry is in a panic, Porsche has been reporting rising profits in recent years.
What’s next? A hybrid Cayenne is on the way as is a four-door sedan. So, are these changes in the Porsche lineup blasphemy or simply an example of how a relatively small company can adapt to the times?

This Just In: New on the Net
In one of his recent campaign ads, John McCain compared Barack Obama toParis—famous for being famous—Hilton. Well, Paris apparently wasn’thappy about it, and has fired back with an ad of her own. The spot details her energy policy, and while the whole thing is pretty funny, the description of McCain—"he’s old enough to remember when dancingwas a sin, and beer was served in a bucket"—is hilarious. Anyway, here’s the news:
- Unless you’re making high-end luxury cars, it’s a tough time to be in the auto business. Even the mighty Toyota is laying people off. 800 contract workers in Japan have been let go. Wall Street Journal
- The Lotus Evora is probably going to get a supercharger, which will boost power to around 400 horsepower. While that’s all well and good, maybe they should just put the camo back on this design disaster. That car was so much cooler when it was "Project Eagle" and nobody knew what it looked like. Autocar
- Packard made some gorgeous machines back in the day, and now the rights to the luxury marque are up for sale. Do yourself a favor and don’t look at the prototype. Damn, it’s ugly. Automotive News
- Next-gen versions of Porsche’s Cayenne have been spotted in the wild, and you have to admit, the uber-powerful SUV looks a lot better when it’s riding low. World Car Fans

Most of the time, I think art involving cars is pretty lame. But I thought this "Caution: Falling Cars" installation was hilarious. I wonder if anyone actually got fooled? Anyway, here’s the news:
- Might the Cayenne soon be made in the US? Given that the Americans love SUVsthough gas prices have no doubt strained the relationshipand that North America is Porsche’s most important market, it makes business sense. Autoblog
- To celebrate the 100th birthday of the Model T, Ford is sponsoring a contest to design a 21st century equivalent. It’s a cool idea, but the concept of bringing back the original Tin Lizzy is a little funnier. Detroit News
- After the Bush administration revoked California’s right to enforce its own emissions regulations, the Golden State is now having to fight to preserve its traditionally tough stance on pollution. If you’ve ever seen the smog in LA, you’d know it’s probably a good idea to let the state decide what’s best for itself. Automotive News
- In an effort to combat alcohol-related road deaths, French authorities are exploring the idea of mandating breathalyzers in late night watering holes. Since using them wouldn’t be required, the machines would either shame people into calling a cab, or spark competition to see who had the highest BAL. Both maybe? Bikes in the Fast Lane
- The new Ford Focus is set to debut during American Idol tomorrow. We predict that Paula will babble about how awesome it is, Randy will call it "dawg," and Simon will hate it. Freep

Have you ever hopped in your car, only to discover it wasn’t yours? When I was in college, I jumped into a Honda that wasn’t mine, and my Mom just did the same thing yesterday with her Hyundai. Funny stuff. Anyway, here’s the news:
- Even though there were screams of protest from Porsche purists upon its release, the Cayenne has been a financial boon for the company. So it makes sense to make a crossover. Right? Check out these shots of it testing at the Ring. AutoExpress
- Given that SUVs are selling for peanuts, it’s not a huge surprise that Korean manufacturers Kia and Hyundai are dropping plans to introduce a pickup. With gas prices climbing steadily, they’ll probably want to keep making all the small cars they can. Automotive News
- If your GPS is good enough, getting lost is already a thing of the past. But now you can even download the positions of traffic cameras and known speed traps, so it might just keep you from getting popped for speeding. Pretty cool. Wired
- Motorcycle riders in Louisiana will no longer have to wear helmets, as the law is being repealed. The really interesting thing about this story? It says that less than half of states require them. In a nanny state like the US, I’d figure that number would be higher. KFDM News

New York was a blast, but I still feel pretty wiped out. Good thing I have a couple of days at home before I head to Detroit for the start of the DUB tour. Anyway, here’s the news:
- Looks like Honda finally going to bring Acura into the UK. Since Infiniti and Lexus have been there for years, you have to wonder why the company was dragging their feet. Hey, better late than never. Auto Express
- The strike at American Axle is still underway, and while the management is asking employees to accept benefit and pay cuts of up to 50%yup, 50%the just gave the head honcho a million dollar raise. Classy. Auto Observer
- BMW just won the 2008 World Green Car award, but like so many other killer rides, it won’t be available in the US. What’s the deal guys? Wired
- There are still two years to go until 2010, but it looks like automotive folks are already starting to talk about "Car of the Decade." I have to admit, the fact that the Porsche’s Cayenne is being floated caught me by surprise. The New York Times
