CarDomain Obscure Muscle Car Parking Lot: the Beaumont SD
By Jim Brennan
UDMan
Welcome to the CarDomain Obscure Muscle Car Parking Lot, a regular feature which aims to expand the notion of what a muscle car is, and to discover hidden treasures while doing so. General Motors Canada produced a few rather unique vehicles during the 60s, specifically for their customers who lived in the great white north. Full sized Pontiacs looked virtually the same as those built for the US, but were built on Chevrolet chassis and powered by Chevrolet engines. They had unique model names like Laurentian, and Parisienne. The Chevy II was built with different trim, a Pontiac-esque grill, and renamed the Acadian. However, the subject of this posting is the mid-sized offering called the Beaumont, and during muscle car period of 1964-1970, Pontiac offered a performance version of the Beaumont that offered something different. Introducing the Beaumont SD.

Cool 1971 Chevelle Wagon on Craigslist
By Brian Lohnes
BangShift.com
This week we head up north, way the hell up north, to the permafrost of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. We scouted out a beautiful, big-block powered, 1971 Chevelle wagon that is the perfect mix of family hauler and hot rod bruiser.
Personally, we’d knock and inch or few out of the ride height, probably with some goodies from Air Ride, and we’d probably swap out the wheels, but the aluminum-headed 454 would stay put and roast tires all day long.
The car that the project started with sounds like it was a cream puff. Only 39,00 original miles, all the factory glass, and the original 12-bolt rearend all point to a car that lived a decent first life before being turned into a hot rod.
Fire up the money conversion calculator and start crunching numbers. Wherever you live, it would be a hell of a road trip home.

Fast & Furious Movie Cars: Official Pics and Specs Now Live!
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
A while back I spent some time in LA on the set of the new Fast & Furious movie. It was a blast–there was an absolute treasure trove of hopped-up rides, I got to hang out with the CarDomain members whose cars were cast for the flick, and Vin Diesel and Paul Walker were actually pretty cool in real life (Walker is a seriously enthusiastic gearhead, it turns out–and Diesel was tooling around the set on an electric scooter like a giant bald kid). Judging by the rides that turned out for the shoot, as well as the star cars featured below, the latest installation is going to be more domestic-centric than any of its predecessors, with a good mix of American muscle and hot imports–all in all, something for everybody. Read on for vital stats and a ton more pics of the movie’s star cars–and stay tuned to the CarDomain blog for more details on Fast & Furious over the next few days.

New Gallery: 60 Photos of Chevelles and El Caminos
David Freiburger
Everywhere I go I snap photos of cars. Even in just the last year or so that’s added up to a whole lot of pics, so I’ve been gathering them by category and presenting them here every once in a while. The last one for 2008 is here, with 60 shots of Chevelles and El Caminos. This includes show cars, race cars, daily drivers, total beaters, and wrecks ready for rebuilding. Check it out.
1974 454 Malibu with Hurst 4 Speed
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
How cool is this pristine ’74 Malibu spotted at Lowe’s Motor Speedway by Jim Donnelly of Hemmings? Yes, 454s were pretty anemic in 1974, but you gotta love the taxi cab interior with the factory four speed floor shifter. Two more pics after the jump.

Clean Chevelle
Mike and I both really liked this Chevelle. Seemed to be just the right mix of old and new. Two more pics after the jump.

Showoff of the Week: Greg’s Chevrolet Chevelle!
By John Coyle
Editor
The first time that Greg took this baby out to a show, he came home with three different awards, and if you check out his page, you’ll see why. The engine bay is mind-numbingly hot, it looks like you could eat off the undercarriage, and the paint is drop-dead gorgeous. Of course, with a 454 under the hood, this classic also goes like a bat out of hell. Congrats Greg!

This supercharged-LS2 Chevelle is headed for SEMA, and now that the major mechanicals are out of the way, Miranda Built is moving on to the finishing touches. It got an awesome new custom interior this week with Auto Meter gauges. Check out the progress on its ride page.

1970 Chevelle to be Featured by Magnaflow SEMA
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
Miranda Built in Fort Lauderdale is building a burly 1970 Chevelle which will be featured by Magnaflow at SEMA. It looks like they started with a fairly clean and straight car, but it’s getting the full treatment, with a powdercoated frame and suspension, air bags, big Wilwood brakes, a supercharged LS2, and, as you might imagine, a custom Magnaflow stainless exhaust. Check out the ride page for tons of pics of the build so far.

Fresh Fast and Furious Pics
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
USA Today posted some apparent screen shots from the new Fast and Furious film. Included among the subjects is one of the mint Grand Nationals that gets trashed in the film (RIP to the six of them), along with Vin Diesel’s mean-looking Chevelle SS, of which we’ve already seen plenty of illicit footage. And surprise, Paul Walker’s going to be driving an R34 Skyline! See the other shots below the jump, and stay tuned for more—now that the stills are starting to trickle out, the official trailer can’t be far behind!
Thanks for the heads-up, Jalopnik!
