Driving Test Scene From License To Drive
By Jen Dunnaway

I’d forgotten how awesome this cornball flick was. This was from way back in the day when Corey Haim (R.I.P.) was just an adorable little kid and the California DMV apparently ran a fleet of 80′s Escorts and Chevettes for their driving tests. Love it!

Chevette Gone Wild
Tampa Sports Car Examiner
The “Dukes of Milford” have their Chevette going wild and bouncing jubilantly through the woods and back trails in the following clip. The Chevette was a great rally car of its time, and even in horseplay it shows. Read more about the Chivette at Tampa Sports Car Examiner.

The Ongoing Saga of BUTRNUT
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
If you ever decided to build a really burly Chevette and do it the right way, Steve’s page would be a great place to start. Just for starters: a Borg-Warner T5, a Jeep Scrambler gas tank, a GM 60-degree 2.8L V6, a Fiero coil-over front end setup, and a Chevy S10 3:73 posi rear and and parallel leaf spring suspension. How do you fit all this into a Chevette? BUTRNUT is very much a work in progress, and the page is an epic read, but it’s well worth checking out.

Yet Another WTF-Amino on eBay
By Brian Lohnes
BangShift.com
Just in case you thought we were going all straight and narrow on you with our wall to wall coverage of the 2010 Grand National Roadster Show, we’re kicking things off today with this most incredibly FUBAR project in the long and storied history of FUBAR eBay projects. We give you the self titled, “1978 Chevrolet El Camino scooter.” Wow.
We were literally dumbstruck when we laid eyes on the “El Chevetto” project that the seller calls “unigue and one of a kind.” It is certainly “unigue,” among several other things like hideous, misguided, and deadly.
The bed appears to be from a Chevy truck and it has been lovingly melded with something that seems to be the extended cab portion of maybe a Datsun truck, which, in turn, has been grafted to the front half of a 1978 Chevette. The good news is that this entire rolling crime scene sits on a 2×4 square tube frame, with rails that don’t even end in the same place!
The seller says that he does not have the spare time to finish the project. For the love of all things mechanical and good. Someone needs to buy this and pack it full of C4. Thanks to BangShift.com member Mr4Speed for the tip!

27 mpg and 350-plus HP in a V-6 Chevette
By Dan Strohl
Hemmings
Phil Hatzos recently made mention of his 30 MPG, 300 HP Chevette, which sounded interesting, so I asked him for photos. See, the 60-degree GM V-6 is good for something! Continue reading at Hemmings

Seriously Burly Acadian
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
Wait’ll you get a load of the mods that Ted is putting into his Acadian–which in the 80′s was Pontiac’s Canadian version of the Chevette. How about a Malibu 3.8L V6 for starters? Pile on a brake and 5-lug conversion from an S-10, and a ton of other ingenious mods adapted from a number of unexpected rides. Remember that these cars were RWD–and this one’s going to be one mean little rally brawler. Stay tuned, because Ted’s been updating his ride page pretty frequently.

Driving an American Sports Car Icon: the 1958 Corvette
By Sam Barer
Sound Classics
Icon: an image or representation. American sports car icon: a first generation Corvette, red with white coves, thank you very much!
55 years after the concept was first unveiled at Motorama in January, 1953, the Corvette is still America’s most beloved sports car. Through six generations, more than a million Corvettes have been delivered to lucky owners. While there have been faster, better handling cars, the first generation Corvette has retained a place in hearts and minds as the favorite.
It’s actually the second design of the first generation that is best remembered. Corvette production vehicles debuted with rocket taillights, mesh-covered headlights, side-curtains and a “Blue-Flame” six-cylinder engine. Instead of axing the dismally selling vehicle, Chevrolet opted for a sleek restyle in 1956, featuring the historic option of color-contrasting exterior coves, which helped increase sales five-fold. Brazilian Chevette!
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
The Chevette made its debut in Brazil in 1974, a year before it was offered in the US. But for our neighbors to the south, the Chevette was available as this sleek sedan, as well as a wagon, in addition to the familiar boxy hatch that became the most popular econobox in the US. How come the other Americas get all the cool stuff? Check out more pics of this pretty Chevette on Rafael’s new ride page!
