1957 Chevy Sedan Delivery on eBay

By Brian Lohnes

BANGshift.com

This week’s eBay find is a totally awesome 1957 Chevy sedan delivery. According to our research, this is one of 8,300 examples constructed by Chevy in 1957. These cars were extremely popular in NHRA Jr. Stock eliminator and were actually the lightest variant of the 150-series Chevys in 1957.

The car in the auction we found is totally intact, but does not appear to be a runner. No worries there, the biggest thing is that this is a complete car and not some basket case that was hauled out of someone’s basement. Chevy called this body style a “Utility Sedan” and ths shipping weight was 3,168 pounds, placing it about 60 pounds lighter than the normal two-door 150 Chevy.

In the 1960s, Junior Stock was the designation given to the lower (and slower) Stock eliminator classes. These particular cars were great for those classes becase the NHRA actually considered them trucks. Because of that, racers could install truck equipment, like the four-speed Hydramatic auto transmission. With a hot small-block, that transmission (in place of a cast iron case Powerglide) and better weight transfer and traction that virtually any other combo, these babies were the hot number. We’d love to see someone buy this and build a period correct racer out of it!

By Rob Einaudi

The Chevy actually put up a pretty good fight in this week’s eBay Motors Showdown, but at the end of the day, the Viper wins for being more exclusive and more insane. Stay tuned for another eBay Motors Showdown next week!

By John Coyle

Everything looks solid as this pair of ‘Vettes square off, but after they get moving, the guy on the left loses it and winds up nearly taking out his competition. This whole thing could have been so much worse…

Viper vs. Vette: Which Would You Choose?

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Ok, so you got $50k burning a hole in your pocket and want a 500 hp sports car. Well then how about a Viper? Or maybe a Z06 Vette? This 2006 Viper SRT-10 comes with a 505 cubic inch V-10 which produces 500 hp and 525 pound-feet of torque. This 2008 Corvette Z06 packs a 427 cubic inch LS7 V-8 which produces 505 hp and 470 pound-feet of torque. The Vette has a bunch of electronic nannies to help keep you out of the ditch. The Viper… not so much. Both examples are low mileage cars and appear to be in excelling condition. Which would you choose?

Danz Custom of Menasha, Wisconsin built this ‘69 Camaro in 2006 to look like the Camaro concept that finally made it to production in 2010. Trippy, huh? More pics and the statement from the builder after the jump. Via carpictures

Larry Larson’s 6-Second Drag Week Nova Cruising the Vegas Strip

By Brian Lohnes

BANGshift.com

Last week we brought you video of Larry Larson’s incredible, Hot Rod Drag Week winning 1966 Nova running its first ever 6-second pass at the The Strip in Las Vegas, which is amazing for a 3,500-pound car that is really street driven. Now, to prove the street statement, we’ve got video of Larry cruising the “other” strip in Vegas. We were there to shoot photos and video as Larry hit Fremont St. and Las Vegas Blvd on his way south to the “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign, all just an hour after running 6.934 at 211.59 on Saturday during the PSCA Street Car Super Nationals. See the video and read more about this awesome ride at BangShift.com

Flaked Caddy on the Grass

Car Culture at Large

I thought I’d follow up my Toyota Cressida spotllight with another one, this time on a distinctively American machine – a ‘61 Cadillac Coupe De Ville owned by a fellow named Hunter Bender of Sacramento, California. Spotted at Billetproof 2009 in Antioch, this low slung beauty stopped me dead in my tracks, and I’ve been anxiously waiting slammed month to post up a few photos of this car. Best of SEMA: Classic Restorations

By Jim Brennan

aka UDMan

Welcome to my last post in the “Best of SEMA” series on CarDomain. I have been tasked to bring you the top five “Restorations” from this years nominees. I was absolutely surprised by the number of beautiful, spot-on classics that were represented. I’m not going to include some of the vehicles that look classic, but are actually new builds, restomods, lowriders, or highriders. No, my criteria would be actual vehicles, older than 25 years old, that have been either preserved, or brought back to better than new condition. That’s the rules, now here’s the list.

- There were two Chevrolet Biscaynes in the show with the monster 409, but the 1964 Biscayne wins this round.
- Speaking of Chevrolet, right next to the Biscayne is this knockout 1967 Corvette Sting Ray, with a 427!
- Showing love for the Import Contingent, how about this well preserved Honda N600 Sedan?
- Don Prudhomme’s 1967 Dodge 700 Race Car Hauler, in well preserved condition.
- At the Ford Booth, there was this stunning 1967 Ford Mustang GT500 that was given away.

Best of SEMA: Luxury

By John Coyle

Deputy Editor

Personally, I find most of the traditional luxury cars at SEMA to be a little boring. I just really don’t care if somebody slapped a sweet set of wheels on a 7 Series BMW and rolled it on to the red carpet. Yawn. That said, I’d like to nominate the following cars for best luxury ride: the black Porsche Panamera (not everyone finds it as ill-proportioned as I do) ,  the killer widebody Bentley in the Nutek Wheels booth, the unreal House of Kolor Monte Carlo, this uber-tough diesel powered Caddy, and David Huang’s aggressively attired Lexus IS 300. Even if you think I’m totally high with these choices, vote for your favorite!

IROC vs. 5.0: Too Close to Call!

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

This week’s ebay Motors Showdown really hit a chord with people. Even with our ongoing commenting issues (now even I can’t comment, and yes, we are working on it) we got a HUGE response on this one. At first it looked like the IROC was gonna walk away with it, but then the Fox body rallied, and in the end this one is just too close to call!

Looks like the 1988 Camaro IROC Z-28 got bid up to $4,550 with the reserve still not met before time ran out. The 1989 Mustang GT auction still has three days to go, with the bid currently at $2,550. But any way you look at it, both of these cars offer a big bang for the buck. And we’ll definitely run more Mustang vs. Camaro shoot outs in the future, cause they are a of of fun!

101-Year-Old Buys a 2010 Camaro SS

By Brian Lohnes

BANGshift.com

Here’s a great one for you. The GM public relations machine was hoping for young buyers for the new 2010 Camaros, but one guy just single-handedly brought up the average. He’s 101 years old! Virgil Coffman in Decatur, Illinois, was not going to let age stop him from motoring in a new Trans4mers edition V8-powered Camaro.

IROC vs. 5.0: Which Would You Choose?

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Ok guys, time for a 3rd gen vs. Fox body showdown! This 1989 Mustang GT looks to have been nicely redone and it’s a 5 speed to boot. The 1988 Camaro IROC Z-28 is unrestored and has some fading paint, but this is slightly rarer car, too, with the L98 5.7 liter TPI (which was only available with the automatic). And of course both come in a killer black/grey color combo. So, which would you choose?

CarDomain Obscure Muscle Car Parking Lot – The 1973 Chevy Chevelle SS Wagon

By Jim Brennan

aka UDMan

Welcome to another installment of the CarDomain Obscure Muscle Car Parking Lot, a regular feature which aims to expand the definition of what a muscle car is, and to discover hidden treasures while doing so. During the 1970s, the age of the fire breathing muscle car was quickly coming to an end, though there were several surprises. One such surprise is the first station wagon that wore the heralded SS badge. Introducing a true paradox, the 1973 Chevrolet Chevelle SS station wagon.

The 12,000 RPM Launching Nova

By Brian Lohnes

BANGshift.com

This video takes us out of the drivers’ compartment and places us straight up in the grand stands. That’s A-Ok as you’ll find out when you watch the video, because there’s no way this car sounds better inside than it does on the outside.

According to the video description, the car is packing a G-Force five-speed and a 276ci small block Chevy. The video also claims that he launched the car at 12,000 RPM. Who knows if it is true, but is sounds awseome!

Here the video, turn up the sound!
