Tire Review: Continental Extreme Contact DW

By Mike Musto

RideLust.com

Earlier this year I took part in the One Lap of America, a combination road rally / track event that takes competitors on a 3500 mile journey to some of the best racetracks in the United States. This event will test not only your stamina and endurance but every single part on your car. It’s long, it’s tough and it’s probably the most fun you’ll have on four wheels. When prepping the car for this event one of the biggest decisions that I had to make was tire choice. I needed a max summer performance tire that could handle the rigors of 9 days of hardcore track duty, 3500 miles of open road and perform well in both the wet and dry. In the past I’ve run Nitto NT555′s, Goodyear Eagle F1′s, Michelin Pilot Sports and Michelin PS2s. These were all good tires but each one had some inherent drawbacks.

The Real JDM

One of my favorite things about well built demo cars is the depth of detail in the design/concept. This is a reoccurring topic that I bring up often on this blog. It comes up often because I really feel that details are what separate good builds from great builds. If you look at the above picture it is easy to be impressed. Sure, a Bentley Continental GT with a Japanese widebody kit and a dry carbon vented race hood is an impressive sight. The car could have been considered a win right there.

What Are the Worst Automotive Follow-Up Acts?

By Sam Barer

Sound Classics

Wouldn’t it be nice to live in a simple world where good cars are good, great cars are great, and bad cars are bad? Unfortunately, there’s a whole spectrum of gray between History Onyx and White Knight.

The most difficult cars to judge are often those models that replaced truly fabulous vehicles. Fair or not, some acts are tougher to follow than others. Just ask the Rolling Stones, whose 1973 number-one album Goats Head Soup(containing “Angie” (also a number-one) and “(Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo) Heartbreaker”) was bashed as a lame effort by critics and fans who had been listening to the band’s instant classic Exile on Main Street album for the last year.

Just like in music, there are plenty of good, bad and ugly follow-ups to great cars. To help sort out the reality from perception, I present Sound Classics’ list of the Toughest-Luck Classic Car Follow-up Efforts.

Yes We Were In LA, And Yes We Saw Paris Hilton

By Weston Henderson

Weston Henderson

As I mentioned earlier, Ryan and I were in LA over the weekend, and while driving through Bel-Air ogling the RIDICULOUS houses and cars, we spotted little miss fancy pants Paris Hilton. She was, of course, driving her Bentley Continental GT Convertible (not the pink coupe we saw at SEMA) and we, of course, snapped a few pics. Sorry for the quality guys, but I almost peed my pants.

Blake's '69 Continental

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

We saw a ton of cool cars when we dropped by Northwest Auto Salon last week. One of them was Blake’s new ’69 Lincoln, which he was in the middle of wet sanding. Check out his new 22″ wheels after the jump. And stay tuned for a lot more pics from our visit.

Our Latest DUB Winner: Terrance's Lincoln Continental

By John Coyle

Editor

Right from the factory, this generation Continental is one of the coolest cars ever. The proportions are perfect, the interior is cavernous, and the factory suicide doors are perfect. But that didn’t stop Terrance from making some improvements—check out all the work he’s put into this piece of classic iron! Now, we don’t know which member car is going to wind up in the thick, glossy pages of DUB magazine, but we think you can agree this ride would look right at home there. For details on how to enter your car, head over to the official DUB contest page—and don’t delay! There are only a couple more chances left to win!

New Kid On The Block

By Jen Dunnaway

It seems like a lot of tough cars have been moving in to the CarDomain neighborhood recently, and this big bad Continental that recently turned up down the block from HQ is probably my favorite. As you can see, it’s already got a parking ticket—it seems like big old cool rides never fail to attract the attention of the killjoys—but the owner is clearly getting the hang of things, and has since been moving the Lincoln every couple of days. I’d love to see this classic under cover where it deserves to be, but I’d be happy for it to be a fixture on our block for as long as the nice weather holds out. More pics after the jump.

Lincoln Park

By Jen Dunnaway

Last night around sundown I had to stop by a Schuck’s out in the deepest, darkest Seattle suburbs where I’ve been working on my parts car. Right next door, on the other side of a chain-link fence, was this run-down looking pool hall with nearly a dozen Mark IV’s and Mark V’s out front. Have you ever seen so many late-70′s Continentals in one place? It was a little like a Lincoln graveyard, as not a single one had current tags and the last year one could’ve legally been on the road was 2002. But I love seeing a goldmine like this—the cars all looked complete and roadworthy, though a little worse for wear. I definitely wanted some info on the cars, but it at the bar it was one of those deals where the "Open" sign is on, the door is locked, and the only person you can see inside is a little old lady watching TV in the dark who won’t come and let you in. Someone obviously cares about these rides, but is just waiting for the right time. More pics after the jump!

K-car with a Continental Kit!

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Time is running out if you want this awesome ’84 Chrysler LeBaron convertible on eBay. Continental kits look bad enough on cars from the 50s and 60s, but this is just atrocious. I asked my buddies at Moparts for some production numbers on these but couldn’t get a serious answer out of anyone. One guy did comment that it looks like a "bumper-mounted toilet with the seat up," which seems like a pretty accurate description. I wonder if those chrome exhaust tips are factory. More pics after the jump.
