Cops: Do You Respect Them or Hate Them?
By Steve Little
SouthernGuy8503
It seems like anytime anything about the police is posted on any blog or forum, there’s always some folks who universally hate cops while others respect them. And yeah, cops are an unavoidable issue for those of us who enjoy our cars and drive fast, so you’ve got to deal with them one way or another. Hit the jump to read on…

Challenger Plays Cop Car Dress-Up
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
There’s this dealership in Winnipeg, Canada that builds some really nice one-off cop cars. But the sad part is, immediately after they’re sold at a for-charity auction, they’re stripped of all their WPD goodies. Though it’s hard to understand shelling out for a badass cop car that is shortly thereafter going to be disrobed of everything that makes it a badass cop car, at least during this Challenger’s brief reign of glory, it gets to showcase what a hot highway pursuit vehicle it would make. More pics at Robert’s ride page.

Bagged Cop Car
By Jen Dunnaway

Somehow I get the feeling that King has had his lowrider Crown Vic pulled over a time or two, but that hasn’t stopped him from planning some really awesome mods. Wait’ll you see the 22″ wire wheels he’s got for it, and the lambo-door conversion he’s working on. Astonishingly, he’s hooked up a functional train horn on the old cruiser as well. Check out King’s ride page!

New Taurus Cop Car
By David Clarke
highspeedhijinks
For the last several decades the Ford Crown Victoria has ruled the roost when it came to police-issued transportation. The only thing more antiquated than the 33-year-old “Panther” chassis it ran on might be the horses used by mounted police. So needless to say, this platform was long overdue for an upgrade. With more powerful and fuel-friendly competition out there already in the from of the Dodge Charger and Chevrolet Impala, Ford found it necessary to bring out their big new shiny gun: as of 2012, the Taurus will be the vehicle of choice for Ford’s Police Interceptor program. The base model police package will use the 3.5L v6 that puts out a respectable 263hp and 250lbft of torque. The pursuit vehicle, on the other hand, will be rocking all-wheel drive and the 365hp twin-turbo Eco Boost 3.5 found in the SHO. Beefed-up brakes, a recalibrated stability control system, and doors that swing 10 degrees wider are just a few of the amenities Ford included to make the Taurus more police friendly. Tough Camaro Cop Car
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
There’ve been 2010 Camaro police car concepts and renderings circulating around pretty much as long as there’s been 2010 Camaros, but this is apparently the first sighting of a marked and legitimate one in the wild. Rather than just slap on the usual lightbars and decals, the Haltom City Police Department in Texas treated themselves to a custom build by Classic Chevrolet for their new Camaro SS patrol car, with subtly-integrated LED lighting throughout, including the stealth row of blues behind the grille. Seems a little decadent, but I guess there’s worse ways to dispose of taxpayers’ dollars! See more at Jalopnik.

Hemmings Find of the Day: 1973 AMC Matador Cop Car!
By Dan Strohl
Hemmings
I wonder if the seller of this 1973 AMC Matador cop car chose that photo location on purpose? Was he just looking for an appropriately gritty background in an attempt to emulate Los Angeles? Is he making commentary on AMC’s traditional underdog status and correlating that to an inability to keep the peace? Is he trying to juxtapose a symbol of law and order against a symbol of lawlessness in a statement on the futility to suppress human design? Continue reading at Hemmings…

Restored 1992 Camaro Cop Car on eBay
By Brian Lohnes
BangShift.com
We were tipped to the eBay auction of this pristine 1992 Chevy Camaro BC4-package cop car by BangShift.com forum memember MR4Speed. The car was an active unit in Utah for most of its life before being retired from service and landing in the hands of a Utah Highway Patrol “expert” who grabbed it because it was never crashed and had no severe repairs in its work history. It was then completely restored. We want it.
Yes, it is a TPI 305 stick car that won’t win too many drag races, but it is a very neat car in its own right. The Camaro comes equipped with all the lights, radios, and tricky police gadgets that an officer would have been tucked in with back when the car was fighting crime on the mean streets of Utah. Add in the fact that it is one of less than 1,000 police package cars to be packing a manual transmission, and the motor is cleaner than most restaurant kitchens, and you’ve got a neat car!
There’s not a spot of rust on it and you could scare the wits out of everyone else headed to the car show with the flip of a couple of switches. How do you beat that? There’s just something about cop cars.

The Ride A Cop Would Kill For
By Jen Dunnaway

Carbon Motors recruited police input to come up with their E7 prototype–the ultimate cop dream car. This baby will be running a 300-hp clean-diesel motor, 360-degree flashing LED’s, bullet-resistant door panels, integrated shotgun mounts (!), rear suicide doors, and voice-recognition software that scans and identifies license plates. Philadelphia police officer Carl Latorre says, “I am so excited about this car. This car rates up there with cops carrying automatic weapons to combat what the criminals carry now.” Wow (and yikes). With a 0-60 of 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 155, the purpose-built cop car sounds like it’ll rival most criminals’ getaway vehicles. What do you think–would you want police in your town to be so equipped? More pics below the jump, and read up at CNN. Thanks to Mike for the tip!

We’ve all heard about the Lamborghini cop cars in Italy. Well, it looks like the French police had some pretty sweet Alpines at one point. Just check out this beautiful A110. More over at Hemmings.
