Wild Turkey Develops Crush On Patrol Car, Menaces Cop
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
We all know that cops like to be super-intimidating, which makes it all the more hilarious when you catch them totally chickening out. Watch as a wild turkey, enamored of a cop’s Crown Vic, so unsettles the officer that he can’t even get out of his car. The most hysterical thing is that he blips the siren in an effort to dislodge his new friend—but since the siren kind of sounds like a turkey, the curious bird simply becomes all the more enchanted. Someone’s got a crush!

Boy Takes Cruiser For Sunday Drive… Two Of Them
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
A 13-year-old in South Carolina stole a cop car (not pictured) from his local police department two Sundays in a row, did some patrolling, and returned the car. The enterprising teen, who has "an interest in law enforcement," used a building entry code he’d seen one of the officers use to get to where the car keys were stored, then took off with the cruiser. Curiouser still: when the boy brought the car home to mom, she didn’t see anything wrong with her son’s borrowing, and went about her business. And best quote from Metro.co.uk’s article on the incident: "In a true ‘that’s some fine police work there, Lou’ moment, none of the officers noticed it was missing." It took a neighbor calling the cops to get the situation addressed, and both mom and son were booked, with the boy remaining custody at the juvenille detention center. Hey, if he’s considering going into police work, the hands-on experience will probably do him good!

Vintage Cop Cars in New Jersey
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
Is this unmarked Studebaker detective car amazing or what? A large group of vintage cop cars from the New York Police Museum made an appearance at the Whiskey Cafe Cruise in Lyndhurst, New Jersey on Saturday June 21. I have a ton more pics after the jump. Thanks to Chris Germain for the great photos!

Crazy Cop Car Build
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
Picking up a retired police cruiser at auction is generally a cool move, but Chuck’s cast-off Caprice caught fire on the way home and burned up much of its back end. The car was slated for a complete strip-down anyway, so the disaster merely paved the way for a truly awesome racecar build. Chuck now runs "Shamu" on both the drag strip and the road course. See the whole thing documented on his ride page!

Fords At Carlisle: The Fuzz
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
Lisa Sams first saw a Mustang highway patrol car at Carlisle in 1999, and was instantly hooked. She got her first one that same year, the black ’89 Florida State Patrol car in the background (vinyl decals removed). Then she got the ’91 Georgia State Patrol car shortly thereafter from a private seller who’d picked it up at a state auction. This car’s special-service package is 100% complete and functional: it’s got the heavy duty alternator, silicone hoses, transmission cooler, oil cooler, extra fan, and reinforced seats and floor pans required for a high-speed pursuit vehicle. And all the cop gear that got stripped off before its sale had to be painstakingly re-aquired and hooked up: it now has a working lightbar, rear deck lights, PA system, radar unit, and Eyewitness Video System—that camera they use to get all those "unbelievable police chases" you see on TV. Lisa says she has to put covers on any markings that identify it as a police vehicle when she’s driving on the highway—and she’s forbidden from driving it at all in Georgia—but it’s worth it, she says, because most of these old pursuit cars get turned into racecars or trashed, and a few of them deserve to survive intact. I think the Krispy Kreme box is a nice touch, don’t you?

Meth Addict Psycho-Calls 911 For Cab, Gets Cop Car Instead
By Jen Dunnaway

A man in Waco, Texas, reportedly called 911 fifteen times in a row after his cab took too long to arrive, finally causing exasperated dispatchers to send him a black-and-white cab with flashing lights on top. Cops drove Lewis Waits to the hospital and then to jail after he admitted to using meth. He failed to come up with the $26 cab fare. Full story at AP.

Mopar Cop Cars
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
Last weekend a bunch of cool old Mopar cop cars turned out at the National Police Parade in Newport, Rhode Island. Examples include a NYPD ’88 Diplomat and a RISP ’79 Newport owned by Phil Masso, a CTSP ’74 Fury owned by Tom Weglarz, and a CHP ’73 Polara owned by Tracy Claus. There was also a CHP ’91 Crown Vic owned Steve Spaulding and Tracy Claus, and even a super cool 5.0 Mustang (I’d love to have one of those). You can see all of these cool cruisers after the jump. Thanks to Steve Spaulding for the pics!
