By Chris Bicknell

The fifth episode of Track To Street celebrates the 50th anniversary of Corvette competing at Le Mans.  The Corvette has come a long way since its 6 cylinder-equipped ’53 model, and much of that progress is due to the continued efforts of the Corvette Racing team.  It all started when Dr. Dick Thompson piloted the Briggs Cunningham No. 2 Corvette for its debut in the 1960 Le Mans race. 50 years later, Corvette is still outperforming cars more than three times the price.  Check out the latest Track To Street episode featuring the 50th anniversary Z06 Carbon here, and see more pictures after the jump.  You can also watch the previous 2 episodes here.

The Track To Street series goes behind the scenes with the Corvette Racing team, giving you a glimpse of what’s new on the racetrack.  Episode 4 focuses on innovations in the durability, efficiency and weight reduction of the car’s components while also building them from more environmentally friendly materials as part of the Michelin Green X Challenge. Advancements include wheel bearings that reduce rolling resistance and an air-conditioning system that only draws 1.8 horsepower to cool the cockpit.  The result is a faster, greener and all around better race car.  Watch for yourself and check out the previous episode here.

Still, with its 50 years of racing experience, the Corvette stands above the rest, but have you ever wondered exactly how components from legitimate race cars translate to their “track edition” counterparts in the showroom?  The sixth-generation Corvette is packed full of technology developed by the C5R racing team, and the new 2011 ZO6 Carbon edition is a great example of a production vehicle that employs real racing hardware. Check out the Corvette racing series video below to see for yourself.

Corvette Racing and Flying Lizard Play Rough at Laguna Seca

By John Coyle

Deputy Editor

In ALMS, we’re generally for Corvette Racing. But at Laguna Seca, driver Jan Magnussen was bumping like it was NASCAR, and on the last lap, Flying Lizard driver Joerg Bermeister gave him a taste of his own medicine. This battle was the highlight of the entire race, and you can watch the last few laps in this longer clip, but if you just want to see the final confrontation, check out the video below. As you can imagine, the officials weren’t happy…
