Bagged Cop Car

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

Somehow I get the feeling that King has had his lowrider Crown Vic pulled over a time or two, but that hasn’t stopped him from planning some really awesome mods. Wait’ll you see the 22″ wire wheels he’s got for it, and the lambo-door conversion he’s working on. Astonishingly, he’s hooked up a functional train horn on the old cruiser as well. Check out King’s ride page!

Calling All Units!

By Chris Borrelli

Chris Borrelli

We have all heard stories where some guy buys a Ford Crown Victoria and starts acting like a cop. I hate cop impersonators, especially because they give the Ford Crown Victoria, one of my favorite cars, a bad name. Anyway, Fred Heitzman did just that, but what makes his story so unique is that after pulling some woman over, he called for back up. Read the full story at 10tv news.

A Bank You Can Trust: Moneyed-Out Crown Vic

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

Hey, what’s not to like about money? I guess if you’re really all about the Benjamins, building a Bank of America tribute car makes a certain amount of sense. Check out the two gas caps, one for fuel and one for "night deposit only" (see it stuffed with bills on page 2). And the headlights full of coins and the BOA credit-card grille emblem are inspired touches. While CarDomain policy doesn’t say anything specific about the gratuitous display of possibly illegal firearms on member pages, we figure that if anyone deserves some slack on this front, it’s this guy—since he’s basically done up his Crown Vic as a rolling ATM, he’s clearly running a pretty burly security risk, especially with that cloth sunroof. Check out his ride page!

Jamie's Police Interceptor Gets a Color Change

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Jamie picked up this 2003 Police Interceptor last year. He quickly added a GO RHINO push bar, clear fog lights, remote start/keyless entry, and a Pioneer CD player. It looked pretty good in the original white paint, but he got tired of it and decided to paint it Hugger Orange. Why?

It was kinda nice having people drive cautiously and safely around me, but if there was no room to pass it gets pretty frustrating having everyone drive exactly on the speed limit in front of you.

Be sure to check out page 4 of his ride page, which shows the Crown Vic with its new five spoke wheels, parked alongside Jamie’s late model Mustang and ’67 Fairlane.

Mopar Cop Cars

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Last weekend a bunch of cool old Mopar cop cars turned out at the National Police Parade in Newport, Rhode Island. Examples include a NYPD ’88 Diplomat and a RISP ’79 Newport owned by Phil Masso, a CTSP ’74 Fury owned by Tom Weglarz, and a CHP ’73 Polara owned by Tracy Claus. There was also a CHP ’91 Crown Vic owned Steve Spaulding and Tracy Claus, and even a super cool 5.0 Mustang (I’d love to have one of those). You can see all of these cool cruisers after the jump. Thanks to Steve Spaulding for the pics!

What Should NYC Cabbies Drive Next?

By Jen

Editor

I remember being pretty sad when New York City’s last Checker cab was retired from service. While the current Ford Crown Victoria might seem substantially less iconic than the Checker, it’s been the durable workhorse of New York’s cab fleet for decades. But that looks like it’s about to change: as the fleet ages and gas prices rise, the venerable V8-powered Crown Vic looks like it’ll soon be put out to pasture, though the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission has no idea what to replace it with. Given Toyota’s hunger for world domination, I wouldn’t be surprised if they were positioning the Prius to be next choice of the world’s largest purchaser of cabs. Still, girthsome Americans worry about the comfort of the compact hybrid, cargo space is clearly an issue, and the Commission is despairing that "there isn’t a vehicle now on the market that can solve the city’s needs." They’re even negotiating with automakers to produce a custom purpose-built Taxi of Tomorrow, which if it turns out anything like NASCAR’s Car of Tomorrow, won’t make too many people too happy.

But what might be a good pick from automakers’ current offerings? Say you’re a cab driver who has to spend all day in your vehicle, you don’t want to get murdered at the gas pump, and you want to be able to carry a decent number of passengers and their stuff.  What would you want to drive?

Bondurant Crown Vic

By Rob

Roush built eighteen of these Vics for the Bondurant Racing School back in 2000. The cars came with a manual tranny, a 320 hp 4.6 and a complete roll cage. These cars are not street legal. Anyway, one just sold on eBay. Check out the auction for the full specs and lots of pics.
