Rotting DeLorean in Northern California

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

The guy who found this has made several attempts to reach the owner of the car and property, but has gotten no response. The most ironic part is the new car cover sitting inside the car! More pics after the jump! Via Fiero.com

Hot Or Not? DeLorean Solstice

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor-at-Large

This could very well be just another one from the wild-ass rumor mill, but Jalopnik claims that the recently-reconstituted DeLorean Motor Company is seriously considering giving the Solstice a second lease on life. Under the scheme, DMC would supplement its limited output of refurbished DeLoreans with a run of DeLorean-badged Solstices (hey: they could call it the DeL Sol, get it?), and to this end, they’ve acquired a GXP for teardown and are eyeing GM’s defunct plant in Wilmington as their possible future assembly line. We’ll see, but if they do it, it’s going to need some gullwings.  Via Jalopnik.

What Did You Do This Weekend?

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor-at-Large

Chris and I put a couple hundred miles on his Impala convertible to go check out the DeLoreans in Hoquiam, WA. The town’s historic 7th Street Theater has been hosting a Back To The Future screening for the last couple of years (this year they showed Back To The Future 2) and they always invite the Pacific Northwest DeLorean Club, who tend to turn out en masse for the event. John and I checked it out last year, and when I heard they were screening the second movie, I wasn’t about to pass up the chance to check out one of my favorite flicks on the big screen and to see all those DeLoreans lined up on the street–it’s just such a trip to see so many of them in one place. Check out a ton more pics on 7th Street Theater’s Facebook page.

How about you–what did you do this weekend?

Fireball Dissects DeLorean!

By Fireball Tim

Movie Car Design Master

Yeah, I dig this car. Always have since Doc Brown ran her up to 88. Why? I mean, it doesn’t really drive all that well, kinda dorky lookin’,  and only came in one color.

Well, because it was just damn cool. That’s all. And it deserved to be immortalized in film. (I did a tuned version below, but the original sketches are by Andy Probert) Lots of versions were done for the Back to the Future films, and all of them were cool. But a flying Delorean? THAT was sick. Every now and then I like to dissect a movie car because movie cars are like actors, only they don’t get insulted when you give them constructive criticism. They don’t pout when they get their lines wrong and they don’t throw tantrums… for absolutely no reason.

A little while ago I went to DMC and got a full on tour of the shindigs. yeah, DMC is back. You can get a brand new 1984 Delorean for only $50K. (Yeah, let me just whip that outta my ^$#”, yo.) But at any rate, Back to the Future or not, the car is rock n’ roll. Check out the episode below and tell me that you don’t want one. More photos after the jump.

Michael Jackson Impersonator Kicks Repo Man in Taint

By John Coyle

Deputy Editor

When I was a kid, I worshiped Michael Jackson, and Thriller was the first record I ever bought. That said, I wasn’t terribly sad when I’d heard MJ had passed, because I’ve always pretended he died in 1984. That saved me a lot of unpleasantness over the years. Of course, tons of people are still crazy about him, and some of them fall behind on their DeLorean payments. I have to admit I was impressed with this fanatic’s dance moves—it’s a shame he didn’t throw in a moonwalk!

Get Your DeLorean Fix, Now With Electricity

By Evan

NWSilverado

I’m not sure what it is, but I’m always drawn back to the Delorean. And the only thing more cool than a conventional-engined DeLorean would be one with all-electric power, right? Back in June, Jen wrote about a man who created his own DeLorean EV, and now it looks like he’s trying to sell it on eBay. Who knows where the reserve is set, but with the Buy It Now at $100,000, it’s going to have to end up in the collection of someone who’s seriously dedicated. Check out the auction!

High On DeLoreans!

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

This is totally my idea of a fun road trip: a couple of weekends back, John and I jumped in the Hyundai Genesis press car and headed for the coast after hearing there’d be a DeLorean event in the little town of Hoquiam, WA. Turns out that Hoquiam’s historical 7th Street Theater was turning 80, and they were screening Back To The Future to celebrate. The theater people had invited the Pacific Northwest DeLorean Club, and while they were expecting maybe a handful of cars to show up, the DeLoreans turned out in force. There were over a dozen cars lining both sides of the street out front, and they’d come from all over Washington and Oregon for the event. See more gullwinged goodness below the jump, as well as this video of the cars rolling in—and let us know if you’ve ever seen so many DeLoreans in one place!

A Look Inside DMC Texas

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

Recently, our buddy Matt from Jalopnik went out and toured the DeLorean Motor Company headquarters in Texas! His impressions were pretty close to those I gathered during my look-around at DMC Northwest last fall: it’s curious to see so many of the stainless-bodied rides in one place at one time, and the aftermarket and replacement-parts infrastructure for them is incredible. His discussion with president Stephen Wynne indicates that a lot of the things Stephen mentioned at SEMA last year are coming to fruition—they will be getting 200 hp out of the PRV V6, and it sounds like that supercharger project is going even better than expected. Read all about the tour and the test drive over at Jalopnik.

Homebuilt Electric DeLorean

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

It doesn’t get much more white and nerdy than this: a DeLorean EV! Dave Delman, a medical doctor with degrees in electrical engineering and biomedical engineering, built this fully-electric DeLorean in six months flat. The New York Times ran a story on it last week, and there’s some pretty hilarious video of him driving it here. Love it, but it needs a headliner! Take a look at this video of it autocrossing in the rain, and check out the car’s full specs at the EV album.

What It's Like To Be A Chick in Manhattan With A DeLorean

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

Over the weekend, the New York Times ran this human-interest piece on DeLorean owner Lauren Reilly (her vanity plate: "DELAUREN"). It documents the daily realities of running a DMC in NYC, fielding a lot of flux-capacitor jokes and getting pulled over by cops out of simple curiosity—but much of it should ring true for just about anyone who drives a weird old unconventional love-’em-or-hate-’em ride in an area where everyone else has a shiny, generic new commuter-pod. Check out the article and the cool slide-show, which features a voice-over by Lauren talking about her ride.
