Garage Wing GX71 2JZ Chaser

By Speedhunters

Car Culture At Large

After spending some time in Ebisu circuit the other day shooting some drift cars I realized the lack of drift events in this “off-season” is getting to me. I always complain I cover too much drifting during the year but I’m experiencing some rubber-smoke withdrawal symptoms. So I thought it would be a good time to take a look at the other GX71 I spotted a Nikko at the end of November. This old-school Chaser was parked next to the Cresta in the paddock and simply looked sensational slammed on its tiny 14-inch wheels. Continue reading at Speedhunters

Car Culture At Large

Here at Speedhunters we try to diversify and bring you the best the worldwide car scene has to offer. And as you have probably gathered by now it’s hard to top Japanese car culture, as there is really something for everyone, and then some! I have been holding on to this feature for a while now, waiting for the right moment to post it up. A while back I got a call from Andy at Powervehicles.com, telling me he had just picked up a crazy Japanese custom van at the Tokyo car auction and that I really needed to check it out. RPS13 Meeting at Daikoku

By Speedhunters

Car Culture At Large

If you live in or around Tokyo the Daikoku Parking Area is the most common place to hold meets. Over the last year we have seen RX-7 owners gather on July 7th (7-7) and AE86s meet on August 6th (8-6), which obviously gets the mind wondering. How many other date-related meetings could there be? A few weeks back Rod asked me if I had heard of any possible S13/S14/S15 gatherings being held on January 3rd, 4th and 5th. My reply was simple, I had no idea! Best thing I could do is head down to Japan’s most famous truck stop and see what was going on. So last night at around 9 pm after grabbing a very nice Okonomiyaki dinner with some friends I jumped in the car and went so see what was going down. Continue reading at Speedhunters

Drift Miata From Italy

By Speedhunters

Car Culture At Large

It’s always interesting to see how passion can push people to create very unique cars, and this Miata from Italy is the perfect example. The owner and avid reader of Speedhunters, Filippo Pirini, has been working on his little Mazda for 3 years and plans to have the car ready in the next year or so. Filippo will compete in one of the Italian drift championships so has carefully chosen every modification to help him create a nice set-up for drifting. Continue reading at Speedhunters

Car Culture At Large

There is no doubt Nismo wanted to concentrate on the legendary racing history of the GT-R at the Nismo Festival this year, with a very evident focus being placed on more modern machinery. The next year will be very exciting for Nissan, Nismo and the GT-R as the FIA GT GT1-class R35 that has been under development for the past year takes on a full season of the FIA GT Championship. After finishing third in the Unlimited FF class of the Redline Super Lap Battle in Buttonwillow the 5Zigen guys sent their Accord Euro-R back to Japan in time to compete at Tsukuba. The car arrived back at the Osaka HQ on the first of December which allowed them to get to work on it to take care of a few small modifications before its outing at the Rev Speed event. Car Feature: TA Auto Nissan 240ZG

By Speedhunters

Car Culture At Large

I had one of the best experiences of my life the other week. It all happened on a very cold, very wet Monday morning at the recently opened S odegaura Forest Raceway , a short 45 min drive from Tokyo. The idea was to meet up with revered Fairlady Z restorer Ando-san of TA-Auto to shoot a couple of his latest creations, one of which was this beautiful maroon HS30 240ZG. The 240ZG was built in 1971 to homologate the S30 for Group 4 racing and was only sold in Japan.  Continue reading at Speedhunters.

Car Culture At Large

Nurburgring 24 Hours, Nurburgring, Germany Carpe Diem or more fully Carpe diem quam minimum credula postero, should be the guiding principle for all photographers. For those of you who paid as little attention to Latin lessons as I did all those years ago, I will translate, “Seize the day, trusting as little as possible in the future.” What is he on about now, I hear you say? Well you only get fleeting opportunities to make what one of my writer colleagues, Marcus Schurig, calls magic. Continue reading at Speedhunters.

Sessions VIP Celsior

Car Culture At Large

Most people might find it hard to believe but finding a properly modified VIP sedan in Japan is not that easy, especially up in the Kanto region of the country. VIP is a style that began down south, in and around Osaka, and has over the last decade or so spread around. Different takes on this style have emerged but for my slammed feature from Japan I wanted to bring you the most authentic car I could find, which is where my friend Kenji Yamada came in. Toyota Motorsport Festival: Part Two

By Speedhunters

Car Culture At Large

Toyota’s efforts in Formula 1 may have ended, but the final run of their F1 cars sure didn’t hold up the rest of the action during the Toyota Motorsports Festival. Joining the race versions of the LFA, Toyota had a nice surprise for everyone, in the form of a production version of the LF-A, sporting a rather catching shade of matte black. Next to the race cars it sounded much quieter and refined, but it didn’t look any slower when it shot past the main straight.  Continue reading at Speedhunters.
