CAR Style Hamburg 2008

By Ralf Becker

Chromjuwelen

If you intend to visit a car tradeshow and you live in Northern Germany, you are lost. Ok, Deutschland isn’t that big, but the next shows, like the Essen Motor Show or the Tuning World Bodensee, are too far away just to pop in for an afternoon. This is why the Messe Hamburg started CAR Style in 2007. I think they found an interesting mix of cars this year, as you can see here. Except for the Mercedes-Benz R-Klasse ”Imprint RLS” from Alpine, which really confounds me… More pics after the jump!

Anybody Want A Marlin?

By Ron

aka WayTooFurious

I always like seeing cars that are out of the ordinary. Have a look at this photo: although it may bear some resemblance to a Dodge Charger, it’s actually an AMC Marlin. This was AMCs attempt to raise its profile with the car-buying public. Released in 1965 as the Rambler Marlin, and simply called the Marlin from ’67 to ’68, the fastback was initially built upon AMC’s mid-size Rambler. The major change for the model came in 67 when it was based on the new Ambassador platform. With sales lagging, the Ambassador-based Marlin was replaced with the now-legendary Javelin in 1968. The Marlin has always been a relatively rare car, and there are only a few listed on Car Domain, like Steve’s and Ron’s. However if you would like a piece of Marlin action, there’s currently a project listed on eBay for next to nothing. Check it out.

LS1-Powered Porsches

By Ralf Becker

Chromjuwelen

The blown LS1 sits nicely in the back of this 911, and weighs less than the original Porsche engine. And the wing houses the radiator! Be sure to check out the same guy’s 914 conversion after the jump. Source: Toy-Jet.com and FullThrottleV6.com.

Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow ''Snob Rod'' with Hemi Swap

By Ralf Becker

Chromjuwelen

Practical Performance Car Magazine and Mike Skinner (The Streets) have both proved that you can do cool things with a Rolls. But how about this? A Silver Shadow with a blown 592 Hemi. With the dual stage nitrous system the car is pushing 1040hp. I especially like the leather-covered roll bar–more pics after the jump. Source: CarScoop.

Yamaha C3

By Ralf Becker

Chromjuwelen

Sick of the daily search for a parking lot for your jalopy? Bothered by climbing gas prices? Then how about using a scooter for daily driving duties? They are small, they are cheap and they can be really cool. Just think about the Honda Ruckus, which comes with an injected four-stroke engine and a ton of custom parts. Another fresh candidate is the Yamaha C3. It might not seem like the best basis for a custom bike, but the guys at Tokyoparts created a real monster out of it. Just watch their movie.

Mille Miglia: 1000 Miles of Motorkultur

By Ralf Becker

Chromjuwelen

Each year all of Italy goes car crazy when nearly 400 classic cars take a thousand mile tour from Brescia to Ferrara to Rome, and then from Rome back to Brescia. The Mille Miglia is a series of picturesque old towns and gorgeous landscapes in fast motion. This year our friends at Carmondo invited us to follow their 1956 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing in a brand-new Mercedes-Benz SL (which seemed quite boring and tame compared to all the cool old cars in this event). I have a ton more pics after the jump, and you can check out our full coverage on Chromjuwelen.

Street Mag Show Hamburg

By Ralf Becker

Chromjuwelen

What a great season opener! Just in time to the first warm days of the year, our friends at the German ”Street Magazine” asked us to come out to their famous "Street Mag Show." To give you an idea of what kind of US iron we have in Hamburg, check out all the pics after the jump. And for even more, check out our full coverage on Chromjuwelen.

Prototype Hamburg

By Ralf Becker

Chromjuwelen

Well, ok, Hamburg isn’t right round the corner for most of you, but in case you are planning a trip to Germany, you shouldn’t miss a chance to visit our brand-new ”Prototyp” exhibition (and while you’re at it, you could also drop by one of our Chromjuwelen Motor Shows). To call this place a museum would be wrong. Prototyp is more a treasure collection of German engineering–especially Porsche engineering–with the 356, 597 Hunting Car and 906 Carrera 6, just to name a few. To give you a quick impression of the ”pre-opening” event, I’ve included a ton of pics after the jump.

912 Electric

By Ralf Becker

Chromjuwelen

While everybody talks about "green cars," Jens Broedersdorff and Uwe Koenzen built one. Sure, converting a 1967 Porsche 912 into an electric-powered car will probably confound a lot of people. A range of 90km won’t distinguish this Porsche as a long distance cruiser, but doing burnouts without engine sounds is definitely different. I think it’s cool. What do you think?
