Pagani Zonda R Sets Nürburgring Lap Record
Tampa Sports Car Examiner
This time the real Nürburgring production car lap record has been broken. Although commonly thought to be owned by the Ferrari 599XX at 6:58.16, the real record was held by the Radical SR8LM at 6:48.00; the difference is a matter of opinion. What you define as a “production car” determines who’s record was shattered. When you get to the price and level of these exotics, none of them are hardly “production”. Video: Ferrari 599XX Laps Nürburgring in 6 Minutes, 58.16 Seconds

The 599XX is a 700HP, weapons-grade version of the 599GTB, and it drops Modena’s luxury appointments in favor of race-ready features like plastic windows and a roll cage. Ferrari says this run is a record for a “production-based” sports car, and while it might be technically right, this Cavallino isn’t street-legal and ran the lap shod with slicks. So you can make your own decisions about whether this “record” is that big of a deal, but regardless, this video is sick.

The car is based upon the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano and has the same transaxle and engine layout, but that’s where all the similarities end. The V12 engine in the standard 599 produces 620bhp while the ‘same’ V12 in the 599XX puts out 700bhp. This is thanks to extensive work on the combustion chambers, the inlet and exhaust side.
