Ferrari Mondial 8 in Richmond

I’ve been living in Richmond, Virginia for awhile now. It’s a big racetrack town, and since day one, I knew the car culture here was more diverse and prevalent than in other places I’ve lived. Driving down Broad Street recently, I crossed paths with this ultra-rare Ferrari Mondial 8, one of only 3000 hardtops produced. It’s notable because it shares the same drivetrain as a Ferrari 308, but it has two extra seats. As with most Ferraris, this vehicle is happiest when it’s driven every day, and the owner made no bones about his baby being outside the garage. See more…

It’s a surprisingly easy vehicle to work on, despite being an older Ferrari. I guess this is a good thing, seeing as his starter solenoid went just 2 minutes before this picture was taken! The driver is a DIY’er, stating that he’s done every mechanical repair on this vehicle, including the clutch (which he claims only takes 2 hours. Amazing!)

Pretty nice find, eh? Yeah, that’s Richmond for ya. Don’t worry, there’s plenty more where that came from. In this automotive oasis, one doesn’t have to look far to find something truly unique and/or extraordinary.

DragTimes.com posted up a dyno graph of a new Ferrari 458 Italia that was strapped down to Fabspeed’s DynoJet for some baseline testing before the performance modifications began. The numbers were a bit disappointing with the Ferrari putting down 450HP to the wheels. This works out to be just over a 20% drivetrain loss, which seems a bit high, especially considering the Ferrari’s DCT Transmission.

Targa Trophy Bay Area Rallyfest Results

Targa Trophy was held last weekend running Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Porsches and other high-end machines through 300 miles of twisty San Francisco Bay Area back roads.
