After first coming across the Russo and Steele listing on Hemmings.com of this 1987 Modena Design Ferrari California Spyder, we thought we could add to what TA had already mentioned the other day regarding the Ferris Bueller replica Ferraris. Alas, as TA points out, the movie came out in 1986, a year before Modena Design and Research began their business (according to the Russo and Steele text). TA also notes that Mark Goyette, who built the three for the movie, sold his tooling to Precision Design. So as best we can tell, Modena Design had nothing to do with the Ferris Bueller cars, and the confusion stems from the fact that Goyette (who started building replicas in 1985) called his replicas the “Modena Spyder.”

This is just not the week for the Ferrari California. Early this week, the vehicle was seen smashing into a bulldozer. Now, it’s getting stuck in gravel pits. Is this a cursed Ferrari, or just a string of bad luck? Read more about the instance at Tampa Sports Car Examiner.

The quality of this video kind of  sucks, toward the end, some dude driving a Ferrari California in Sofia, Bulgari screws up and slams into a bulldozer. Oops.

I guess this shouldn’t come as a huge surprise, but the 1987 Lamborghini Countach handily beat the 1984 Ferrari 512 BBi in this week’s eBay Motors Showdown. I really admire the Countach, but for a car to own and drive, I would definitely go with the Boxer, which is one of my favorite Ferraris of all time. “Ben, in light of the recently released 458 Italia photos, I decided to make a rendering of my version. I thought a high gloss orange, more aggressive kit, and gloss black wheels will make this Ferrari stand out from the rest of the red, white, and black painted Italian crowd.”

I was talking with fellow blog reader Jay Hundred about the variety of JDM tuning recently. Jay brought to my attention a curious new release by Toda Japan. I call it curious because I really wonder how many people are buying a 2,355,000 JPY stroker kit (26,500 USD before wire losses, shipping, etc) for their aging Ferrari F355. On one hand I’m not surprised because for as long as I can remember Toda has had a hand in F355 tuning, but I’m just surprised that by now they didnt release a stroker kit for a F360 or F430. I just dont see many people racing and modifying F355s. Most that have this kind of coin to drop on a pricey stroker kit seem to have moved on to F360s and newer. Although I’m guessing Toda can and will prove me wrong since they just released this comprehensive kit.

Regardless, the Ferrari F355 must really move nicely with nearly 500 horses and a redline near 9000rpm coming out of this 3.9L V8. Thanks Jay Hundred for the lead on this.
