Kenny From The Brack Takes the Pole at X

By John Naderi

StreetFire.net

Home Depot Center hosted the qualifying today for the X Games Rally Super Special. Because the FMX Super X configuration holds court in the arena until Saturday night Rally qualifying was confined to the outer perimeter tarmac section. To no one’s surprise it was an all STI/Fiesta battle. However what was surprising was that the Fiestas dominated taking three of the top four spots. Indy 500 winner and IRL Champion Kenny Brack put the Olsbergs MSE Ford in the top spot but it was only good enough for 5th place on the grid. Hit the jump to see why and you can also see more pictures as well as our video of Kenny previewing X.

Fiesta Movement Winner Can't Drive Stick

By Rob Einaudi

Intrepid VWVortex member chucchinchilla spotted a red Fiesta chugging across an intersection in Pittsburgh. He followed the guy around the corner and snapped this pic with his cell phone as the guy ground the gears trying to park. The Ford contest clearly stated that the cars would come with manual transmissions. But apparently, several Fiesta Movement winners like Bobby Fiorentino can’t drive stick. Doh!

Fiesta Beats the Fit on CarDomain

By Rob Einaudi

I was expecting Honda to win this one, but the feisty Fiesta upstaged the Fit for a convincing win in this week’s Showroom Showdown. Think the Fiesta will be hit with the tuner crowd?

Ford Fiesta vs. Honda Fit: Which Would You Choose?

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

I came away pretty impressed with the 2011 Ford Fiesta last week. Yes, the Fit costs more, but I don’t think it would be fair to put the hot new Fiesta up against something bland like a Yaris or Versa. The Fit has a 117 hp 1.5 liter four banger and the Fiesta has a 118 hp 1.6 liter four banger. Both cars are available with a 5 speed manual. The base Fit starts at $14,750 while the Fiesta should start around $12,000. So let’s say you are comparing a base Fit to a better equipped Fiesta. Which would you choose?

NYIAS: Fun with the Fiesta

By Rob Einaudi

Mike and I just got back from driving the Fiesta around a bit. Nicely finished little car, surprisingly roomy, and fun to drive. We managed to get one with a manual tranny–slick gearbox with nicely spaced gears for city driving. It’s a hellava bang for the buck when you consider it starts at $12k. More pics after the jump!

I Get to Drive the Fiesta on Thursday

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

One of my best friends had a first generation Fiesta when we were in high school. We beat the crap out of that poor car, but it was a blast to drive. So how about this new Fiesta? Could it be a contender? Will it pose a threat to hot imports the Honda Fit? I finally get to drive one on Thursday while I’m in New York. Jalopnik wrote a rave review last week, so I’m expecting great things. If you have anything you want me to check out, post it in the comments!

By Jen Dunnaway

The Ford Fiestas that’ll be loaned out to a lucky 100 for a 6-month test period as part of the manufacturer’s Fiesta Movement campaign were seen rolling onto the dock yesterday at Oxnard, CA and Baltimore, MD. Coolpacer, I think I see the car that you’ll be blogging for us

Via Carscoop.

CoolPacer Is A Contender In The Fiesta Movement

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

A bit ago we told you about the Fiesta Movement, Ford’s grassrootsy approach to promoting its all-new hot hatch. In a nutshell, they want you to make a video to convince them that you’re deserving of a 6-month field test of the Fiesta–you get to take it home, drive it everywhere you go, and document all your hijinks on video. CarDomain’s very own CoolPacer has made a video entry for the contest, and it’s pretty hilarious. Go rate it up on YouTube to help him get the test car!

Ford ECOnetic

By Ron Honig

WaytooFurious

I can remember attending the Melbourne International Motor Show when I was a kid. The great thing is that I would always come home with a few trophies. It would always be some plastic bag stuffed full of brochures, stickers and other nick knacks. It’s interesting to see how things have changed over the years. This year quite a few manufactures didn’t even have brochures available for some of their cars! I did however manage to score a packet of seeds on the Ford stand. No, it’s not what your thinking. Ford was promoting their ECOnetic range of cars. The little Fiesta they had on display is already being sold in Europe. It uses 3.7 litres of petrol per kilometer and I was told that they may be bringing in a Fiesta with a common rail diesel motor. Although it was an interesting car I think I would prefer the Ute or Ranger that they had on display. More pics after the jump.

The Fiesta Movement: Are You Game?

By Matt Wellumson

Neuwerks

While taking photos of the upcoming 2010 Ford Fiesta, Brian Hjelt (from Neuwerks) and I had the opportunity to talk with Chantel Lenard, who is currently Ford’s marketing manager for small and midsized cars. During the conversation we asked her a few questions about the marketing that will promote a car that previously wouldn’t be of interest to the American market.

Currently Ford is working on a program called the Fiesta Movement, with which they intend to select up to 100 “tech-savvy” enthusiasts to drive a Fiesta during a period of months prior to it’s US release. Drivers involved in this challenge will report back their experiences on social networks such as YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter. I personally am interested in this new marketing move from Ford, as I can’t honestly think of one person that has purchased a car based upon what was said or shown in normal marketing tools.

Most people I know actually get automotive advice from social media, blogs, what friends say online, or sometimes by what people they follow on Twitter or Facebook drive. For many of the Younger car buyers, social networking is the only way they share experiences, and get working advice for issues they want resolved. Ford’s Chantel Lenard said that tools like Facebook and Twitter can be seen as the modern equivalent of getting advice from a trusted neighbor over the fence.

This kind of forward thinking by Ford may be what sets them apart from the dated marketing strategies of their competitors. What’s more, Ford will actually be listening to feedback about the experiences to help better the Fiesta, and continue to advance the growing small car segment!
