Bird Is The Word
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
Don’t let the steep gears fool you: despite running a 3:73 rear end, this gorgeous ’69 Firebird is a turnpike cruiser that can do 70 mph at 2000 rpm. And it doesn’t redline until 162 mph! Check out Ken’s ride page for a ton of fantastic pics.

Ken’s Firebird
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
This was the #1 ride on CarDomain when I checked yesterday, and you can probably see why. From Ken’s ride page:
I did all the work myself in my garage except the final paint and the only time it’s been on a trailer was when I hauled it home the first day.

Clean, Mean, LS7-Powered Trans Am
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
With all the 2010 Camaro-to-Firebird conversions floating around the show, how come it hasn’t occurred to someone how awesome a completely updated Bandit-era Trans Am would be? Turns out that it has. This ultra-smooth ’77 was built by Pinkee’s Rod Shop, and is packing a TRB Performance LS7, 4-wheel Wilwood discs, and one-off billet wheels–19′s in back and 18′s up front. Great, subtle details throughout: I love the Pontiac logo machined into the wheel centers. More pics!

Another 2010 Camaro Trans Am Conversion
By Jen Dunnaway

I really dig the period-correct wheels, though I think the nose is a little gnarly. And the hood scoop doesn’t leave much room for the giant screaming firechicken that’d be necessary to complete this look. I think I like the Lingenfelter Trans Am better. How about you? See more angles below the jump.

Collectible Cars That Were Victims of the Cash for Clunkers Program
By Jim Brennan
UDMan
Cash for Clunkers is over and the government and many dealers proclaim it as an overwhelming success. But at what cost? Many rather unusual and possibly valuable cars were sacrificed during the program; a few that will make the car enthusiasts among us cringe.
There were a number of questions raised when scanning through the list published on September 9th by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). To be eligible for the Cash for Clunkers program, vehicles were specified to only get 19 miles-per-gallon or less, measured by their previously published EPA rating. Yet a few vehicles that were submitted generally get better fuel mileage than the benchmark set by the program rules.
As troubling as that was, it is underscored by the list of truly desirable enthusiast cars that were traded in as clunkers. This raises some troubling questions as to the reasoning behind the transaction. Scanning through the list, here are 12 different vehicles that should have been saved from their eventual fate of being scrapped. These 12 cars will be met with the usual questions as to how this was allowed to happen in the first place, or what kind of person would trade such a vehicle, replacing it with a Hyundai or a Toyota? Annoying Guy With Kick-Ass Firebird
By Brian Lohnes
BangShift.com
Some people simply do not know the definition of “soft sell.” The dude selling this awesome 1971 Firebird Formula 455 is one of them. The text in the ad is not all that bad, but the embedded YouTube videos are pure comedy with the seller really putting on the full court press to show off this car.
The car is a stunner. It has 70,000 original miles, has never been apart or restored (as is claimed by the seller) and seems to run like a top. The seller also claims that this car is ultra rare with nary a handful of them produced as this one is optioned.
Check out the eBay auction and then watch the video. We think he should just let the car speak for itself.

What Car Do You Regret Selling?
Bick66
Last night I sat down to make a list of all the vehicles I’ve owned, and I found the number had grown to 17. And of course, since I don’t have unlimited space, I’ve sold a few along the way. The reasons for letting each one go are varied, and it’s not like I regret the loss of every vehicle I ever posted on Craigslist or put in the Auto Trader. But there’s a few, like my ’75 Firebird, that I still dream about on a daily basis. Unless you’re like Jen, who still owns every car she ever bought, you’ve probably had a car or two get away from you as well. What car do you regret selling, and why’d you give it up in the first place?

Follow the jump to see some more of the cars that got away from me.

Ouch: Sold For An In-Ground Pool
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
Mike’s ’79 Trans Am ride page is pretty straightforward. Just a few photos, the last of which depicts a small backyard pool that he financed with the proceeds from the sale of this gorgeous car. Wha…? Yeah, I’m not one to tell anybody how to spend their money–lord knows I’ve bought a lot of dumb, frivolous stuff–and if what he really wants is an in-ground pool, more power to him. But I can’t suppress the nagging feeling that, a ways down the road, Mike’s going to end up missing that hot ride (with the Year One 8.8 L??) more than he’s enjoying that hole in the ground. I know the situation isn’t exactly comparable, but I’m reminded of someone I know who once sold a ’75 Firebird in part to pay off someone else’s medical bills. He has rued the day ever since, and still keeps pictures of the car around to pine over. How about you? Ever sold a car to pay for something, then regretted it?

I'm Concerned About This Firebird
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
Mostly because it’s been parked in the same spot, on the street outside of HQ, for like three weeks now. I’m really worried that sooner or later, some busybody from the City is going to slap an abandoned-car sticker on it and that’ll be the end of that. It’s a GTA Trans Am with Montana plates, and a "Pontiac-Oakland Club International" sticker in the window—the owner is clearly an enthusiast, and has driven the car all over the West. The car is mint inside and out, but now it’s just gathering dust—what’s the deal? I’m sure we could sneak it into the CarDomain Garage if the owner’s in trouble and needs to stash it somewhere for a bit. More pics below the jump.

Procharged LS1 Firebird
By Jen Dunnaway

This is Kenny Walters’ Procharged LS1 Firebird convertible. He built the car and is running One Lap of America in memory of his cousin, Hal Cantor, also a gearhead, who would’ve loved to be along for the ride. Can’t wait to see this mean-sounding ride out on the track!
