Focamino

Here’s today’s hilarious hack: a crooked diamond-plate pickup bed grafted onto the back of a Ford Focus. What do you suppose the payload is for this baby? The 5.0 badges are a nice touch. One more pic after the jump, via VWVortex’s epic You’re Doing it Wrong thread.

Ford Focus ST at The Paris Motor Show

Rocketboom just posted this video, which shows some nice close-up and interior shots of the 2011 hot Focus. I think the color-matched contrast stitching and seat panels are a little cheesy–maybe this look has been so overdone by the Pep Boys dressup crowd that it can’t not make me think about 20-dollar seat covers–but overall, it’s a tight looking machine. See for yourself!

Turbo Focus ST Available Globally in 2012
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
On the heels of Ford’s 2011 Focus redesign, the Focus ST will reportedly be available in all markets starting in 2012. If the mock-ups leaked ahead of the car’s unveiling at the Paris Auto Show are any indication, it should be getting Ford’s 250 hp 2.0L EcoBoost mated to a 6-speed manual. That would make it a pretty hot hatch, though I can’t say I’m a huge fan of all the bodykit gingerbread and carbon fiber this-and-that (on the other hand, the catfish-mouth grille? Awesome). It’d be cool if a more stripped-down sleeper version was available with that same drivetrain. A lot of folks in the industry have been saying for years that the whole sport-compact thing is in serious danger of falling by the wayside, but a new crop of hot hatches and the high profile they’re currently enjoying in motorsports might give the tuner scene the defibrillation it needs to eke out a few more years. Ford’s Electric Future
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
Back at the beginning of the 80′s, Ford set out to build a true “World Car”–the Escort–a version of which was to appear on every continent on Earth, making it a global vehicle in a way that hadn’t been earnestly attempted since the Model T. Though I continue to drive a Ford Escort (or two) just about every day, I’d sure never driven an electric car. But with its new global electrification strategy, the next-gen Focus already billed as the company’s next “World Car,” and the all-new electric Focus spearheading its varied fleet of battery-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, Ford is embarking on something far more ambitious than the last world-car effort.
But forget about world domination for a second–let’s talk about the car. On the road, I found the all-electric Focus to be a total darling. Continue reading…

News at the Geneva Auto show is that a hot version of the Focus, powered by a turbocharged EcoBoost 4-cylinder, will finally be making its way to the US. But only Europe will get the cute new wagon for 2012. Always gotta have something on us, don’t they? Read more at Edmunds.

2012 Ford Focus Unveiled at NAIAS

The big Ford press conference was all about the new 2012 Focus. This is truly a global car and a huge effort by Ford. The new car will be available as both a hatch and wagon. Power comes from a a new 2.0-liter direct-injected four banger rated at 155 hp and 145 pound-feet of torque. Buyers can select either a 6 speed manual or dual-clutch PowerShift automatic. When I saw the first pics that leaked out I wasn’t that impressed, but it looks sharp in person. More pics after the jump!

Ford Explorer the Most Crushed Clunker
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
Six of the top ten clunkers being traded in are Explorers, with the 1998 model year at the top of the trash heap. These vehicles get poor mpg and have a low resale value (not to mention the whole roll over stigma). And yeah, they sold a ton of them in the 90s. So what’s the most popular car to be purchased through the Cash For Clunkers program? The Ford Focus. More at Jalopnik

Safety First For This Spec Focus
Atomicalex
The driver of this Spec Focus walked away from a slow-motion roll and remarked “well, I did buy it used.” The order of events is not clear, but it involved a broken rear rotor, a locked up wheel (same), and turn 1 at Waterford Hills. Damage to the Focus was minimal thanks to the slow speed, but even so, I was completely impressed with the lack of intrusion. Aside from the jacked up rear suspension and panel damage, the unitbody was intact with no contacts to the cage. Good work on the part of the Focus team over at Ford, and excellent control on the part of the driver. This could have gone waaaay worse! See a pic of the failed rotor after the jump.
