Go Big Or Go Home In Texas

Texas is a state of “big” ideology. That bigger than life thinking and notion seeps into modern performance and street racing in many ways. Going big with vehicles like a supercharged SRT-10 Dodge Viper, twin turbo Ford GT, Procharged LS3 Corvette, and a GMC 1500 with SRT-10 Viper engine swap means these guys never have to go home. 1000HP Viper Races 911, Spins Out.

Ma Mopar’s Viper is awesome because it’s about as complicated as a hammer. There’s no fancy traction control or electronic nannies to keep you out of the wall, there’s just a giant motor and the potential for trouble. And when you’re talking about a 1000HP Venom version,  things are even more intense. So I wasn’t surprised when the Porsche bests the beast in this race, because hooking up all those ponies isn’t going to be easy, and Stuttgart knows how to make a car corner. But even though it’s way, way, too close for comfort, how cool does it look when the Viper comes sliding by the camera? It looks like a comet! Good thing it didn’t impact the Ford GT…

London to Maranello and Back, In a Ford GT and a Dodge Viper

One of the great things about the life I’ve led for the last 10 years as an independent editor is that I’ve put together some really great road trip adventures. And quite frankly, none was better than the trip I took back in the summer of 2005, driving a Ford GT and a Dodge Viper from London to the Nürburgring, then to the gates of the Ferrari factory in Maranello, then on to Le Mans, and finally back to London, all in six glorious days. In my mind, it’s the ultimate road trip and I had a great friend along for the ride. More…
