By Chris Bicknell

General Motors announced yesterday that they have fully repaid their government loan, plus interest, five years ahead of schedule. Although GM has has a lot of work ahead to get back on track, it seems like they are making steps in the right direction. I guess time will tell just how much they’ve learned from their past mistakes. Watch below as Chairman and CEO of General Motors Ed Whitacre talks about the repayment and touches on the future of GM and read more at gm.com.

The EN-V: GM Meets Segway

By Chris Bicknell

Bick66

Yesterday General Motors unveiled their latest concept, the EN-V, at the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, calling it a possible solution to the world’s worsening urban sprawl and congested highways.  EN-V, which is short for Electric Networked-Vehicle, is a collaborative effort between General Motors, Segway (yep, that Segway) and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp (SAIC).  There are three slight variants on the concept, each tweaked to a particular market by GM’s design teams in the US, Europe, and Australia. With more and more concepts like this turning up at the shows and expos, I’d say it’s only a matter of time before two-seater electric transpo-pods become a common sight on the streets of every modern metropolis. Hey, it might make it easier for the real cars to find a parking space, right?

Cadillac Drops Two Doors in LA

By John Naderi

StreetFire.net

Much like the impending drop top Camaro we knew it was coming, this, the Coupe version of Cadillac’s comely CTS. And there it sat with little fanfare at the LA Auto Show. Our only hint was an invite-only affair on the eve of the show’s press days that apparently we weren’t invited to (that’s okay, we just cuddled up on the couch with some warm tea and a yummy chick flick – French Kiss, if you must know). Hit the jump for more on the CTS Coupe and less on Meg Ryan.

GM to offer 60-Day Money Back Guarantee on All New Vehicle Purchases

By John Coyle

Deputy Editor

While I think this 60-Day Money Back Guarantee Chairman Edward E. Whitacre Jr. announced today sounds like a great way to demonstrate that the General has confidence in its products, I still couldn’t help but think of a couple of funny situations. The big one? New Corvette owners returning their babies with bald tires after spending every possible second flogging them on the track, then driving to another dealership and repeating the process. It’s not that I want to see this strategy backfire—exactly the opposite: I love the General—but I have a tendency to look at things from a glass-half-full perspective. You can probably think of some other terrible type scams, so check out this New York Times article and post them in the comments.

Short Term Memories: the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky say Goodbye

By Jim Brennan

UDMan

Yesterday marked the last day of production at the General Motors Delaware assembly plant. The 62-year-old factory was a victim of the automaker’s restructuring that has claimed tens of thousands of jobs and will close or idle 14 plants in the next three years. GM has stated when they filed for bankruptcy protection that the Boxwood Road plant would be shut down by the end of July. This is the place where the Kappa Roadsters were built, in the form of the short lived Pontiac Solstice, Saturn Sky, and they even exported them as the Opel GT. It was reported that the members of the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky car clubs visited the plant to pay their respects to the manufacturer that produced their beloved cars.
