Car and Driver Sets Metro-Sensibiles Straight
By John Coyle

When a Geo Metro sold on eBay for $7300, everyone—including Rob—had something to say about it. Sure, gas prices are high, but seven grand? For a 16-year old three-banger? That’s nuts! But what about paying a reasonable amount for one of these sub-sub-compacts and using it to relieve gas pains? Well, the guys over at Car and Driver have weighed in, and their answer isn’t no, it’s hell, no. From the obvious safety issues—you like your legs, right?—to the almost-certainly sketchy maintenance history, to the fuel-efficiency argument—you’ll have be on the gas constantly to avoid getting run over—this piece explains exactly why seeing a teenage crap-box as some kind of golden goose is misguided, and I got a big kick out of it. So if you have $7500 burning a hole in your pocket and a burly beef with Big Oil, do yourself a favor and read this first.

Tiny Summer Fun
By Jen Dunnaway

I was giggling over this blinged-up Geo Metro convertible on eBay, but check this out: the side-pipe isn’t fake. The seller says it sounds just like "a mini muscle car" when it’s uncapped. The prices being fetched by these 42-50+ mpg Geo Metro drop-tops are no laughing matter either: I guess after all the buzz about a hardtop Metro selling for $7300, Metro owners everywhere are getting dollar signs in their eyes. And could be better than a convertible? Awhile back I did a blog on best cheap-to-run beater convertibles, and considered putting the Metro on the list—but with a lot of these auctions pushing up into the thousands, they hardly seem to qualify as "beaters." Can you believe some of them have opening bids of $4000? Would you drive one?

Best Pizza Delivery Vehicle For Under $1,000?
By Rob
Editor-in-Chief
What’s the best pizza delivery vehicle for under $1,000? That’s the question being asked by "1967cutlass" over on the Grassroots Motorsports message board right now. Currently he’s considering either an MR2 or a Protege. Someone suggested that he buy the Martini-themed Geo Metro below, which is currently for sale in the GRM classifieds for $400. Another guy who delivers pizza said he’s been pretty happy with his ’82 Olds Delta 88. Jen’s old mill is currently seeing duty in a Escort GT pizza delivery vehicle, and has performed flawlessly so far. What would you guys recommend?
