The New Jeep Grand Cherokee Ad Is Hot
By Jen Dunnaway

…and its messaging just seems more believable somehow than Toyota’s dubious made-in-America claims. Maybe it’s the Johnny Cash soundtrack.

Does Jeep Have a Winner with the 2011 Grand Cherokee?
By Rob Einaudi

I’d say Jeep did a great job with the styling and I’ve been reading very positive reviews at Autoblog and Cars.com. The configurator is now live at Jeep.com and it looks like pricing is actually a tad lower than the outgoing model, despite the fact that they’ve added features. So what do you guys think? Chrysler definitely needs a win right now…

One bright spot for Chrysler right now is the next generation Grand Cherokee, which will go on sale later this year. Pricing will be very close to the outgoing model. Here it is showing its stuff on the Rubicon Trail. More pics at Jalopnik

SVT Raptor Beats the Grand Cherokee SRT8 on CarDomain
By Rob Einaudi

Some people were pretty annoyed with me for this week’s Showroom Showdown. But hey, it’s all in good fun, right? The idea was to put two closely priced vehicles with no real competition up against each other. And the Raptor won, despite the fact that the CherokeeSRT8 forum got in on the act. Nice going Ford. Now Chevy and Dodge have to step up and give the Raptor some competition.

Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 vs. Ford F-150 SVT Raptor
By Rob Einaudi

Last week I was trying to figure out what to pit against the new Raptor. Seemed like there was nothing out there that really compared. Then I remembered that a month ago I was trying to figure out what to pit against the Grand Cherokee SRT8. Nothing seemed to compare to the burly Jeep, either. Well, now, let’s see… The Raptor starts at $38k and comes with a 5.4 liter V8 which puts out 320 hp and 390 lb.-ft. of torque (sadly, the 6.2 liter V8 won’t be available in the Raptor until the winter of 2010). The SRT8 starts at $43k and comes with a 6.1 liter Hemi that puts out 420 hp and 420 390 lb.-ft. of torque. Both are awesome vehicles that will scare your neighbors. Which would you choose?

Is the ZJ Grand Cherokee a Ripoff of Giugiaro's Panda?
By Rob Einaudi

Just look at this early ’80s Fiat Panda designed by Giugiaro and then look at Dan’s new ’94 Laredo and tell me that Jeep wasn’t influenced by the little Italian.
Beaters, the Next Generation: 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I had sworn I wouldn’t repeat the mistake I made – on two different occasions – by passing up the five-speed Astros I saw in the local classifieds. I mean, c’mon, you don’t see those every day. So when it came time to replace the GMC, I wanted something unique and utilitarian. Since I spent so much time messing with the stroker in the HMX, I was leaning toward another Jeep 4.0L-powered vehicle.
I had never been much of a fan of the ZJ Grand Cherokee (though I’d not toss a 5.9 Limited out of bed for eating crackers), but I was surprised at how low prices for them had become. And then this one showed up on my radar: a ‘94 Laredo with the 4.0L and a five-speed manual transmission. The brakes were grinding bad and the body looked like it went 10 rounds with Buster Douglas, but it was all there, and the seller accepted my offer of $900. Continue reading at Hemmings
