BRE Is Back

By David Wallens

Grassroots Motorsports

Back in the late ’60s and early ’70s, Brock Racing Enterprises was a dominant force in SCCA racing. Their familiar red, white and blue Datsuns put in stellar performances in Production-class and Trans-Am competition. Their 510s were so tough, in fact, that some credit them with ending the small-bore Trans-Am series.

While, those colors are back. Former BRE driver John Morton will wear the team’s scheme in the SCCA Pro Racing Playboy MX-5 Cup race held at the Speedfest at the Classic Motorsports Mitty. The Mazdas will share the weekend’s schedule with HSR historic racers April 29-May 2 at Road Atlanta. Details: themitty.com.

Sure, anyone can race a Porsche, Ferrari or even a Honda. But a Lincoln? Meet the latest member of the Grassroots Motorsports fleet. Our publisher just dragged home this Mark VII. It’s destiny? A couple of LeMons and ChumpCar races.

UTCC Gets Some Art

By David Wallens

Grassroots Motorsports

Back in the day, every cool race got its own poster–something worthy of hanging long after the event had past. The upcoming Pirelli Ultimate Track Car Challenge–an event supported by CarDomain–falls into that category. The posters are currently at the printer.

Tuners

By David Wallens

Grassroots Motorsports

Everyone needs a good tuner. Oh, sure, we can all read an air-fuel gauge, but at some point it’s nice to work with an expert. That’s where Ed Senf comes in. He tunes Grand-Am and World Challenge cars, but every now and then he’ll come down to our level. He recently worked his magic and added a Hondata to my B16A-powered CRX. Guess what? It now pulls like a freight train.

CarDomain member GTRad actually uses his Ferrari 430 Scuderia for its intended purpose. I definitely think he deserves to be invited to this this year’s Grassroots Motorsports Ultimate Track Car Challenge.

Grassroots Motorsports Celebrates 25 Years

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Our friends at Grassroots Motorsports just put out their 25th anniversary issue. That’s a pretty big accomplishment for a totally independent, family run operation, and my hat is off to Tim Suddard and his crew. If you’re not a subscriber or can’t make it down to the newstand, they made the entire issue available in digital format. The issue’s feature article is their list of “the 25 best cars ever.” It should come as no surprise to anyone familiar with the magazine that the Miata made the top spot, but I was pleased to see that the Mustang made the #4 slot and that the Volvo 240 squeaked in at #25. There’s also a great article on the 24 Hours of Lemons, and I was very happy to see that two CarDomain members made the list of “three cars that should have sucked but totally didn’t”–the UDMan’s Corvair and the Team Size Matters Fury.

Ultimate Track Toy?

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Ryan and I have been going crazy with Forza 3 at lunch, and it’s really been making us both want to get a track car and get out on the track. I just was deleting a bunch of old files from my laptop when I came across a bunch of pics I took at the first Grassroots Motorsports Ultimate Track Car Challenge at VIR two years ago. I don’t think any of these cars were in the event, but they were out on the track doing laps between heats. Take a look at the other three cars after the jump and let us know what your pick would be. You can probably guess mine.
