Nissan GT-R Wrecked During First Lap
Tampa Sports Car Examiner
A rough day for this Nissan GT-R, which gets slammed into the barrier. A race is much different than time trials, and it can cause drivers to become over anxious to get the lead which in return clouds their judgement. Read more about this accident at Tampa Sports Car Examiner.

Radar Fun Incites Panic in GT-R Pilot!
By John Coyle
Deputy Editor
The GT-R in this clip is the only one in the states with GT3582R turbos, and it’s capable of 1300 horsepower. And while the car is tough as hell, the driver doesn’t sound so tough after he thinks he’s been popped at 160MPH. Damn, this is hilarious!

Random Observations Stumbling Across The SEMA Show Floor
By John Naderi
StreetFire.net
Hello, Vegas. Did you miss me? This joint is like some sort of cruel mistress for me and she likes it rough, if you know what I’m saying. It’s not even Day One and already I feel like a past-her-prime, ridden-hard-and-put-away-wet Glitter Gulch cocktail waitress who’s sucked down one too many Chesterfield’s in her time. In Blogville terms I’m eons late to this game having already been crushed by the likes of Boss Man Rob, John “10 Jameson’s Deep” Coyle, Jim (have yet to nickname him) Brennan and that smarmy little minx, Jen Dunnaway (I’m warning you, Dunnaway, Stay away from my Honda Booth!). This may be my first and only blog as the cocktail of cheap vodka, cold medicine, exhaustion and the smell of desperation may leave me face down in a steaming pile of a $3.99 all-you-can-eat buffet. Hit the jump to see some of what I saw as I try to get found in Lost Wages. Viva, SEMA!

20 Years Strong
By Speedhunters
Car Culture At Large
Sometimes it’s really hard to believe that the high tech R32 Skyline GT-R is now over 20 years old. The R32 is just one of several iconic Japanese cars that recently have crossed the 20-year mark. Others include the S13 Silvia and the NA chassis Mazda Roadster. Surely these cars will be the “nostalgics” of generations to come. The car in the photo is the Auto Gallery Yokohama R32, seen at Tsukuba Circuit last year.

GT-R Makes Quick Stop at the ATM

At first I thought, crap, John already wrecked the GT-R? Then I remembered that our GT-R still doesn’t have plates. Via Jalopnik

It isn’t every day you come across a car like this, that’s for sure. It all happened during a driving expedition my friends and I organized last fall, something we have been doing for years now. The idea is to all meet up at the Hakone Turnpike, one of Japan’s most well known driving roads, and drive up into the mountains and down into the Izu peninsula through the appropriately named “Izu Skyline” pass. Which is precisely where I first saw this impossibly spotless Nissan Skyline 2000 GT-R. Continue reading at Speedhunters

Swimming With Sharks: Driving a GT-R on the LA Freeway
By John Coyle
Deputy Editor
Well, it took almost four days of living in Los Angeles, but I finally got behind the wheel of a supercar. Sitting here typing, I still can’t believe what happened. Now it’s not like I’ve never realized that I’m one of the luckiest bastards to ever walk the face of the earth—I have, really—but lately that’s been happening like, every [expletive deleted] day. You see, CarDomain and YoParts are going to be giving away a Nissan GT-R, and when I rolled into the office yesterday morning, Nads told me we were picking it up from DC Motors, which is a solid 45 minutes from the office, that afternoon. He also—for reasons I can’t at all fathom—informed me that I was going to be driving it back.

How The Nissan GT-R is Built
By Speedhunters
Car Culture At Large
Having posted a few R35 GT-R features so far I thought it would be interesting to see how the most affordable supercar on the planet is actually put together. It’s not often that manufacturers let you wander around their production lines, but Nissan has nothing to hide and gave us an in depth tour of how a car of this caliber comes together.
It all begins at the Yokohama plant, where the mighty VR38DETT is put together. The GT-R’s engine couldn’t have been assembled in a better place as this is where the RB26 and S20 engines of the two previous generations of GT-Rs were made. Away from the automated production lines where the MR motors are built, destined for use on smaller Nissan and Renault vehicles, is a separate climate and humidity controlled room. This is where a team of takumi or “specialist” skilled workers create the most powerful production car engine Nissan has ever built. Continue reading at Speedhunters

Nissan's V8 Nismo GT-R
By John Coyle
Deputy Editor
The Nismo version of the GT-R built for the Japanese GT series doesn’t have much in common with it’s road-going cousin. In fact, the only piece the two cars share is the roof. But really, who cares? There’s some great footage of the weapons-grade machine tearing up the track here, and Race Engineer Ricardo Divila provides some interesting info about the car’s specs in this clip, though he never tells us why Nismo went with a V8 instead of using the car’s famous six. Anybody have an idea?

No Price For Knowledge: the Story of a GT-R
By Steve Neill
Steve Neill
After slowly setting foot onto my doorstep, I felt the sun glare onto my body. I had to shield my eyes to take the twelve steps to greet the beleaguered and somewhat shy fellow beside my garage, with the extremely common name of James. What James drove, however, was not common. James didn’t know much about what it was that he was driving, besides the fact that he loved it with a passion, and that he was proud to call it his own. He didn’t know that what sat in my driveway held many mysteries, and my day was about to be filled with surprise, and disbelief, all at the same time. What he was driving was a Nissan Skyline BNR32 GT-R, but not your everyday average GT-R. This one was quite special indeed.
