I was recently down south in Osaka for a few assignments and stopped by at one of Kansai’s most respected tuners, Auto Select. They are renowned for building some pretty wild track cars and we will be taking a look at some of their creations in the near future but it is actually this car that impressed me the most. This BNR34 circuit racer is driven daily on the streets of Osaka by the owner of Global Auto, the biggest GT-R reseller in Japan. It’s amazing how little $100,000 is these days. I remember when I was a kid thinking that if I made a six figure salary then I’d be rich and able to go out and buy just about everything my heart desired. This was back in the 1970s when $100,000 was still a lot of money. Now, 40 years later and the harsh reality of a broken economy, housing prices and unemployment have forced the world to wake up and rethink a few things. Lucky for me though I can only dream about cars that cost $100,000 which is why that amount doesn’t matter to me. Believe it or not this was a actually a pretty tough list to form as there are quite a few cars in this segment to choose from. Some of the rides on this list will be obvious, but there is one in particular that may throw you.

I’ve been particularly interested in the Australian scene at the moment and checking out what kind of crazy cars there are out there. It’s more than obvious these Aussies don’t hang around! Take a look at this R32 GT-R built by Croydon Racing Developments, crazy hi-power engine under the hood and and almost stock exterior. Me like!

Street Racing Around School Buses

FIA GT1 GT-R Up Close and Personal

I wanted to share with you a video I took during my last trip to Japan. The video is an up close look at Nissan’s R35 GT-R FIA GT1 Race car. This was one of those cars that was far more impressive in the flesh than I ever expected. Of all of the cars that I enjoyed seeing at the Nismo Festival this year, these GT1 cars were my favorite. The quality of the car’s construction, the sound, the details in the design and the closer resemblance to a street GT-R all made these cars more special to me than seeing the Super GT cars (which are closer to resembling rocket ships than street cars these days).

Having felt that pictures do not do the car justice, I jumped behind the ropes with my press pass and shot a walk around video of the car. My hope was to try to show the car from my perspective there at the event, getting a closer look at the design and also getting a chance to hear the sound of another nearby GT1 rev its insane V8 engine. Pictures in my opinion have a hard time doing this car justice.

FIA GT GT1 R35 GT-R

There is no doubt Nismo wanted to concentrate on the legendary racing history of the GT-R at the Nismo Festival this year, with a very evident focus being placed on more modern machinery. The next year will be very exciting for Nissan, Nismo and the GT-R as the FIA GT GT1-class R35 that has been under development for the past year takes on a full season of the FIA GT Championship.
