We just uploaded a bunch of pics from the January 2 Cars and Coffee in Irvine, California. I don’t know what I like more, this Coronet, or this Alfa. See the rest of the pics at cncpics.com!

What Are Your Top 5 Semi-Realistic Dream Cars?

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

I’m not talking about Lambos and Veyrons. I’m talking about cars you are actually planning (scheming?) to acquire in the vaguely foreseeable future—let’s say in the next six months to ten years. But let’s leave daily drivers out of this. Also, you don’t have to own all of them at the same time (though of course that would be nice). But if you’re like me, it’s probably gonna be tough to limit yourself to just one or two. Limiting yourself to five is work enough. So anyway, here’s my list.

1. 1968 or 1969 Plymouth Road Runner. Ideally I’d want a post car with a black bench seat interior (a 4 speed would be cool, too, but pricier and harder to find). I prefer the ’68 cause it’s my birth year, but ’69s are a bit more plentiful and just as cool. Obviously I’m talking 383 cars cause the 440-6 cars and Hemi cars are WAY out of my league. Doesn’t mean I couldn’t get a crate Hemi or build a A12 clone later, though…

See my next four picks after the jump!

Another Beautiful Alfa Romeo GTV at Group 2 Motorsports

By Rob Einaudi

Back in October I showed you this red GTV, which swung by NorthWest Auto Salon while we were there checking out the matte black Ford GT. Well last week NorthWest Auto Salon was detailing this beautiful yellow car for the Group 2 guys. This is still my favorite Giugiaro design, and one of my all time favorite Alfas. More pics after the jump!

On Wednesday while I was hanging around with the NorthWest Auto Salon guys and waiting for John to come back from his ride in the Ford GT, one of the Group 2 Motorsports guys dropped by with this gorgeous Alfa GTV. Man, I love these cars. More pics after the jump.

When in Doubt, Hire an Italian

By Rob Einaudi

Two of my favorite imports, BMW and Subaru, just can’t seem to get it right lately when it comes to exterior styling. BMW is still working through the whole Bangle nightmare, and I personally have not quite recovered from the travesty that is the new Impreza/WRX/STI. Seriously, is it that hard to design a good looking car?

Maybe these manufacturers should just focus on what they are good at: building kick-ass cars. Maybe they should leave the exterior design to people who know what they are doing: Italians. No one ever decided not to buy an Italian car cause it was ugly. People decide not to buy Italian cars because they are too expensive, or because they are too fire prone. But Italians know how to design great looking cars.

Isuzu figured this out back in the 70s. When they wanted a new Impulse, they went to Giorgetto Giugiaro, and he penned something pretty cool. VW has gone to Giugiaro, too–he penned the first generation Scirocco. In the early 90s, Lexus went to Giugiaro for the GS 300, and Subaru went to him for the SVX. So what’s the deal now? Are BMW and Subaru too proud? Come on guys, make it easy on yourself and hire an Italian. You’ll end up with better looking cars, and you’ll sell more of ‘em, too.

Bob Harrington Knows How to Take a Photo

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

I was doing a random Google image search for Alfa Romeo GTVs when I stumbled across Bob Harrington’s photography site. Man, does this guy know how to take a photo or what? Obviously, he specializes in vintage race photography, and his photos have appeared all over the place, including the pages of Classic Motorsports. If you find a photo you like on his site, you can buy it from him. I’m thinking this Alfa might look pretty good on my wall at home.

Alfa Matchbox

By Rob

Editor-in-Chief

I think the Giugiaro-designed Alfa Romeo GTV/GTA is one of the most beautiful 2+2 designs of all time. I want one. But in the short term, it’s not going to happen. So I was pretty happy when I stumbled on this GTA Matchbox the other day. You can buy Mopar Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars all day long (and I have a pretty good collection going), but Alfas are pretty rare commodity.

Made any cool Hot Wheels or Matchbox purchases lately?
