The What-If Game
By David Clarke
highspeedhijinks
Some folks are fortunate enough in life that money really is no object: you buy what you want, when you want it. The rest of us are left to dream, and it’s the dreamers I’m speaking to right now. With dirt-cheap car prices, massive dealer and manufacturer incentives, Cash for Clunkers, and the credit market finally starting to open up again, right now really is the best time in our generation’s life to buy a new car. So I’m asking you this “what if” question: if you had the money to purchase any realistic new car on the market right now, what would you choose? My vote is for the Pontiac G8 GXP with a six-speed stick–and hey, maybe I can still get one before the remaining inventory of Pontiacs dries up.
How about you? What new car do you have your eye on?

The Nissan 370Z Stomps the Pontiac Solstice GXP Coupe on CarDomain
By Rob Einaudi

The 370z beat the Solstice GXP Coupe by almost a 3-to-1 margin in this week’s Showroom Showdown. Ouch. And as usual, I got some flack from some several folks here on the match-up. Hey, it’s not easy coming up with a new showdown each week. The vehicles should have the same number of doors and seats and be priced about the same. Think you can do better? Leave a comment!

Ford Taurus SHO vs. Pontiac G8 GXP: Which Would You Choose?
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
Ford made headlines recently when they announced that the SHO is coming back. Pontiac has been in the news as well, though it hasn’t really been good news. Still, the G8 GXP is one of the hottest Pontiacs to come along in a long time, so we thought this would be a good match up. With the SHO you get AWD, a 365 hp twin-turbo, direct-injection 3.5-liter V-6, and your only option is the paddle-shift 6-speed auto. The G8 GXP is RWD, has a 415 hp 6.2 liter pushrod V8, and it’s available with a 6-speed manual tranny. Both cars come in right around $38k. So, which would you choose?

CarDomain Obscure Muscle Car Parking Lot: the 2005-08 Pontiac Grand Prix GXP
By Jim Brennan
UDMan
Welcome to the CarDomain Obscure Muscle Car Parking Lot, a regular feature which aims to expand the notion of what a muscle car is, and have some fun in the process. This has been an interesting series so far, with vehicles covered dating from the 50s through the 70s. What about something more recent, like a car that only went out of production late last year, and is still available on the lot today? Yes, there are new cars available for sale that fit into the muscle car category, like the Dodge Charger R/T, or the Chrysler 300 SRT-8. There is the Mustang GT and the Shelby, as well as the Pontiac G8 GT. But, did you know there was a powerful V8 Sedan, that wore the Pontiac arrowhead symbol, and was produced just before the awesome G8? Introducing the Pontiac Grand Prix GXP.

Pontiac G8 GXP: Oh yeah… I like it!
By Mike Musto
AKA Mr. Angry
This is a car that I’m really diggin’ and have been waiting for for some time. You see, when it comes to fast 4-doors, there aren’t that many choices. We have the Dodge Charger SRT-8, Chrysler 300 SRT-8 (basically the same thing), Nissan Maxima (yes it’s front wheel drive but it’s fast so don’t bitch), the BMW M5 and M3 but they’re a bit out most people’s price range. In my opinion, the market is prime for a good ol’ American muscle sedan which is exactly what the G8 is. I’m speaking mainly of the G8 GXP: this is the one that’ll be priced around 40k, have 400+hp and a six-speed manual tranny. It will also have 14" rotors with some big honkin’ Brembo calipers and 19" wheels… nice, right? It’ll also do 0-60 in under 5 seconds, and most likely top out around 160mph.
This is good news for those of us who are in the market for a fast sedan. The paint on the show car was some kinda funky bowling ball gold, but other than that though they built a really nice car. The interior is somewhat reminiscent of the GTO, meaning it’s nice with some quality materialsand that, combined with the bulldog exterior styling makes for handsome muscle ride. When the G8 comes out at the end of the year I may have to make some room in MR. ANGRY’s garage for one. We’ll see.
