No Tailgating: Holden Ute Recall
By Ron Honig
WaytooFurious
It’s nice to see car makers that are proactive when faults are found with their cars. Unlike the recent example set by Toyota, it’s good to know that you can still count on some organisations to do the right thing, and save themselves a heap of trouble in the process. Australia’s Holden has recently announced a recall of 34,000 utes as there is the possibility that their tailgates might open unexpectedly while in motion. The chances that this will actually happen to anyone are slim, but in the event that it did, it could pose some obvious hazards to anyone driving behind the defective vehicle. Get the full story at the Age.

‘Motorvate Melbourne’ Public Rally
Tcassa
The Melbourne Show Grounds played host to ‘Motorvate Melbourne‘ this past Saturday. The event was to encourage all gearheads to come along and support a proposed drag racing venue for Melbourne, which hasn’t staged a championship drag racing event since 2001. The event saw a large number of US and Aussie muscle cars on display, as well as a fantastic lineup of drag cars which were all beautifully presented. Plenty of pics after the jump!

What’s Australian for Yee-Haw?
By Dan Strohl
Hemmings
Reader Gregory MacKay sent in this General Lee-themed Holden (Kingswood HT?), spotted in Hobart, Tasmania. Note the lack of a flag on top; we’re left wondering if they’re avoiding the inevitable comparo between Tassies and the American South. Also, why a Holden when Australia had its own Valiant-based Charger?

Holden Going Strong in Australia Despite GM's Woes
By Brian Lohnes
BangShift.com
We were tipped off to this news story from an Australian paper by Kris from our forums. The piece looks at Holden’s future as a part of General Motors and their viability as an automaker in these tough economic times.
It makes us think that the dudes running Holden could wing over here and show the domestic management a thing or two because they are humming along down there and have not laid a single employee off this year. Granted, they have slowed production and employees have taken pay cuts, but everyone still has a job.
Teamwork. A novel concept indeed. Click here to see how GM can survive.

What If Hummer Built a Car?
Gotadime
Jon Sibal recently designed what he calls an HGT, which is a mix of a Hummer and a Camaro. The rendering he did was absolutely stunning—so stunning, in fact, that Andre Mulyadi of Signal Auto picked up the design and decided to build one in real life! Pictures of the finished product after the jump.

Will GM Sell Holden Australia?
By Ron Honig
WaytooFurious
With GM set to restructure its business rumors have been circulating that Holden Australia will be sold. If this does happen it will be a loss, as Holden has always delivered strong products as well as a strong bottom line. The first I heard about this was with this article in the Age last week. Hopefully GM wont do the unthinkable.

Ok, so maybe the G8 is history, but apparently US police departments are looking seriously at buying Chevy-badged Holden Commodores. How cool is that? Via Autoblog

Seriously Dude, Cover Your Car
By Ron Honig
WaytooFurious
I was walking home the other day and I came across this classic piece of Australian motoring history. Looking at the car I could see that it had not moved for a very long time. I am no expert but I am fairly certain it is an EH Holden. Back in the day these were the best selling car that Holden had ever had. What I found really odd was the sign on the dash saying that the car was not for sale. The one piece of advice I have for the owner is this, cover the car. If you are not going to sell it you should at least keep it out of the elements. This is a classic piece of motoring history that is becoming rarer each day. The last time I saw one being used as a daily driver was over twenty years ago. I just find it frustrating when people own a classic car but are quite happy to let it rust in their yards. What do you think the owner should do?

Simon’s Holden Torana

This photo of Simon’s beautiful Holden was taken out at the track before he got rear-ended in December. But don’t worry, it’s getting fixed!
