Bored at Work? Try This!

By John Naderi

StreetFire.net

Check out this choose-your-own-ending style video from Hot Wheels. The coolest part about this is that Hot Wheels is actually selling the cars from the video. Mmmm, so modular. Makes us want to dust off our old orange tracks and use them for something more than just beating the crap out of our younger brother. Check out the Hot Wheels site for more info or shop for original Redline Hot Wheels.

The Fastest Yellow and Red

By Katherine Helmetag

Check this wild Japanese stop-motion video. I’m still in awe. The models are great, and this guy must have an amazing collection of whatever they call Hot Wheels over there!

Someone Broke the Plymouth

By Ron Honig

WaytooFurious

I was in the supermarket recently and I thought that I would check out the toy section. If you collect model cars like I do occasionally you can come across something that is worth adding to your collection. As I was looking at the shelves I came across a Hot Wheels 70 Plymouth Road Runner that I immediately snapped up. The reason I grabbed it was because some how it had passed through quality control, was broken and sealed in the package! I love this because it looks like it has been in a fender bender. The rear bumper is broken in half and the floor pan has been ripped away from the body. More pics after the jump.

What Cars Do You Own in 1/64 Scale?

By Steve Neill

Steve Neill

I’m always taken by Rob’s 1/64 Hot Wheel’s posts, which are always surprising, and it’s always nice to see someone collect the cars, even after their youth. If you had or have a prized collection of 1/64 cars, what are they? What are your top ten favorite 1/64 cars? I have a full collection of Nissan Skylines, as shown here. Missing from the picture is my KPGC10, My 1984 Nissan LMP Skyline Turbo C, My 1985 Nissan LMP Skyline Turbo C, and my 1984 Skyline R31 GTS-R. In total, all these cars cost me a heck of a pretty penny, but I invested in them because I love the cars, and owned an R32 GT-R.

Do you have your car in 1/64? Do you have your dream cars in 1/64? And what brands are your favorite? Are you a simple Matchbox/Hot Wheels fan, or do you prefer the ultra detailed Kyosho, or Tomica Limited models? Let us know!

A Pair of Demons

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Picked these up yesterday. I’d say Hot Wheels is really hitting it out of the park with the old school muscle offerings lately. More pics after the jump!

Do You Leave Them in the Package or Do You Take Them Out and Play With Them?

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Bought a few Hot Wheels last week. I almost always take them out, but the packaging on the Super Bee and Corvette Grand Sport are pretty cool. More pics after the jump. And which one do you like best?

Hot Wheels Swagger Jacks Garson’s Crystal SL Benz

By Ben Schaffer

The Real JDM

Some of you may have already seen the $140,000 Hot Wheels toy car that they recently did to create some buzz for themselves. Anyway, I’m calling it like I see it, and the way I see it, they pretty much made an even cheesier version of Gardon’s Crystal SL Benz (which was at least cool from an originality point of view when Garson did it).

Gift Ideas for Gearheads

By Steve Neill

Steve Neill

With just a few days until Christmas, I thought I would post a few gifts that every gearhead would truly love to have.

1. Hot Wheels Anything

I dunno about you, but when I think cars and Christmas, the first thing that comes to mind is Hot Wheels. Not some strange wooden designer toy that looks like a space age car, or some odd Lego sculpture that you can’t figure out, but little 1/64 scale cars that you can only dream of owning. Always wanted that GT40? That’s no problem, cause Hot Wheels has the solution. And they have tons more crazy models of new cars (and some we’ve never even heard of) that are sure to bring a smile to your face. All it takes is about 90 cents, and you’ll have a guaranteed happy holidays.

Alfa Matchbox

By Rob

Editor-in-Chief

I think the Giugiaro-designed Alfa Romeo GTV/GTA is one of the most beautiful 2+2 designs of all time. I want one. But in the short term, it’s not going to happen. So I was pretty happy when I stumbled on this GTA Matchbox the other day. You can buy Mopar Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars all day long (and I have a pretty good collection going), but Alfas are pretty rare commodity.

Made any cool Hot Wheels or Matchbox purchases lately?

This Just In: New on the Net

By John

Editor

I’ve spent the better part of two days looking for a photo to go with this story, and I’ve officially given up. Some dude in Australia was waving at girls from a car when a passing truck ripped off his arm. The lesson?  Ogling women from cars isn’t just rude, it’s dangerous. Here’s the news:

  • One thing which never changes? People love to complain. These dorks are actually whining about not getting free Hot Wheels cars at NAIAS. Cry me a river: Mlive
  • Bike builder Jesse James is more concerned about being fined for violating California’s emissions laws than he is about the environment. Big surprise: Auto Week
  • Enterprise, National and Alamo are going to start selling carbon credits to folks who rent their cars. It’s a neat idea, but will anyone pony up? Automotive News
  • Stunt driver Terry Grant just set a Guinness Record for tightest j-turn. Yup, there’s a record for everything. Check out the video: Car Scoop
  • Tata isn’t totally sold on the Jag/Land Rover deal yet. Apparently they want Ford to sweeten the pot with some engineering talent: Detroit News
