Super Bowl: Hyundai
Atomicalex
Hyundai is making the most of the new Sonata launch. I liked the “3300 quality experts” ad that aired before the game–if you watch the chassis carefully, it starts out as a basic unitbody and turns into a car as it surfs through the plant. The second ad, featuring paint quality, demonstrated one of the processes that’s near and dear to my heart–the basic anti-corrosion coatings that go on before the paint goes on. The grey bath that the car popped out of is the electrocoat–a special primer that keeps rust at bay and helps keep the paint on. Did you have a favorite Hyundai ad?

Why I Can’t Afford a Hyundai Genesis Coupe
By Ryan Porter
IN-N-OUT Editor
I took the Hyundai Genesis Coupe out for a couple days and am starting to think that I can’t afford to own one. We were provided with the nice 3.8 Track version, which is the sportiest of the offerings, but for a guy like me it still lacks what I really want in a sporty car. Here is a list of mandatory modifications that I’d have to complete in order to own this car:
1. Stiffer suspension – The car has too much weight transfer and too much lean.
2. Lightened flywheel – I can’t exactly describe it, but the transmission is lacking. Quick shifts are nearly impossible to fire off and at low RPMs it feels like the tranny has too much weight to turn over. I’m thinking a lightened flywheel would help with getting the power sooner and might delay the hang time between shifts.
3. Wheels – Very few OEMs get the wheels right, and rather than making the car these take the car back a notch and remind you once again that it’s a Hyundai.
Overall I actually really enjoy the car and I’ll admit that I’m somewhat finicky, as you can tell by the wide variety of cars I’ve owned.

Hyundai Equus – What’s That on Your Hood?
Atomicalex
Hyundai continues its push upward with the Equus. Is this news? Not really, especially on the coattails of the Genesis. But what’s up with the flying hood ornament? It looks like a giant bug. But who knows – the car on display has a rather prominent sticker indicating that it’s a prototype, and details are subject to change. Note to Hyundai – I think I’ve spotted something that could do with a change.

Hyundai Genesis Time Lapse Deconstruction
Tampa Sports Car Examiner
The Hyundai Genesis is a very popular new vehicle, but most of us have only seen the finished product. This time lapse video shows us how much effort is put into assembly by reversing the process and deconstructing the Hyundai Genesis on a time lapsed recording. Learn more about the time lapse deconstruction video at Tampa Sports Car Examiner.

Putting on the Finishing Touches at the Hyundai Booth
By John Coyle
Deputy Editor
One of the coolest things about being at SEMA before the show officially opens are all the little behind the scenes looks you get before all the riff raff gets here. Today, one of the neatest things I saw was this artist hand painting a graphic on to one of the Genesis sedans in the Hyundai booth. She had a projector set up behind her, and was basically tracing the image on to the car. I’ll make sure to get some pics of the finished product when I write about the Hyundai booth later in the week, but I’ve posted a shot that shows her whole set up after the jump.

Spied: 2011/2012 Hyundai Sonata Blue Drive Hybrid
By Jim Brennan
UDMan
When we encountered an unattended Hyundai Sonata prototype we though we had stumbled upon a prototype of Hyundai’s mid-sized Sonata Blue Drive. While it was an educated guess, based on what we already knew of Hyundai’s hybrid plans, we think we were about one week premature as our analysis indicated that from the high level of trim, and the fact that the interior didn’t show any indication of a hybrid-only status gauge, we determined that it was a V6 Limited in very near production specification. But today our initial analysis was proved correct when we encountered two Hyundai Sonata Blue Drive prototypes along with competitive models from Toyota, Nissan, and Ford, along with two dozen engineers who had stopped, en masse, for lunch. Rhys Millen on his New Genesis, Poor Judging
By John Coyle
Deputy Editor
I got a firsthand look at Rhys Millen’s Hyundai Genesis bodykit packages at SEMA last year, and I thought the car was pretty sweet. From what I can tell, the ride he’s racing in Formula D is sporting the same carbon fiber panels, and in addition to being drift-ready, it’ll be able to handle the Pike’s Peak Hill Climb and run time attack. But while a lot of development has gone into the new machine, Millen hasn’t been having the best season. The former champ is currently running 15th in the standings, and in this clip, he doesn’t sound too happy about the judging. Hopefully, he’ll have some better luck in New Jersey next weekend.
