AutoLabo Prius

By Ben Schaffer

Bulletproof Automotive

The AutoLabo Prius is an actual production aero kit, not a strange sci-fi movie car. It is modified for increased aerodynamics says AutoLabo, thus increasing fuel efficiency even further than the standard Prius. You could call it eco-tuned. I wanted to cover this car because there is simply not much on the net about it. Its one of those interesting company demo cars that just slipped through the cracks of every magazine, blog and form of media out there.

AutoLabo offers the following Prius eco-tuning parts: front bumper, side skirts, rear fender skirt, rear bumper, rear carbon wing and coilover suspension

What do you think? Would you drive one of these? More pics after the jump!

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

The Grassroots Motorsports $2007 Challenge winning Cheaparral Racing Corvette is on eBay! The matte black Vette comes with twin turbos and an independent snowmobile-powered M1 Abrams tank sucker fan. So do you think it’s worth more than $2007? All proceeds of the sale go to the United Way, which is pretty darn cool. Thanks to Sean for the tip! eBay

New Honeycomb Humvee Tire is Bullet and Bomb-Proof

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

I’m surprised we didn’t see these in the DUB booth at SEMA. Developed by Resilient Technologies and Wisconsin-Madison’s Polymer Engineering Center, these new honeycomb non-pneumatic tires can support a heavily armored Humvee, survive an IED attack, and still make a 50 mph getaway. They were designed to provide an alternative to the current run flat tires used by the military, which have often left troops stranded and vulnerable after being shot or blown out. Full story at CNET.

Packard Plant

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Last week my brother Fred Einaudi went out to visit his girlfriend in Detroit, and he did a bit of sightseeing while he was there. One of his stops was the old Packard plant, a 3.5 million square foot manufacturing facility which shut down fifty years ago. He found the place strangely devoid of life and eerily quiet, the only sounds coming from creaking girders and the occasional window casing or loose sheet of steel banging in the wind. Everything has been stripped, most of the windows are blown out, and the place seems to now primarily function as a dumping ground for miscellaneous crap. With the Detroit bailout before Congress, these photos seem especially timely. More pics after the jump, and you can see the rest of Fred’s Detroit photos over at Flickr.

Doping and Driving Don’t Mix, and C/D’s Got the Test Results to Prove It

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

I have the original June 1980 issue in a box in my basement, but Car and Driver just made their famous pot smoking and driving road test available in their archives. It’s still just as funny as I remember. Don’t try this at home!

Insane Twin-Turbo Mustang Pro Mod

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

Anything with a pair of turbos jutting out through the hood is bound to grab your attention, even at SEMA, and this ’66 Mustang pro mod race car glowering in the Turbonetics booth did a great job of drawing a crowd. The twin Turbonetics Y2K 91 mm’s were plumbed to an all-aluminum 598 cu in. Ford big block. This beast is driven by 20-year-old Alex Viscardi, and makes over 3000 hp—yep, enough to blow your hair back. See more pics.

Best Car Hauler at SEMA?

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

I didn’t see anything roll off this Cummins diesel-powered Ford COE at SEMA, but if it did, I’m sure it paled in comparison to the hauler itself! We’ve actually had this truck in the blog before, and it’s been spotted in So Cal several times. More pics after the jump.

CarDomainTV: Goldberg's Superbird

By Mike Musto

AKA Mr. Angry

Over a year ago when I decided to start work on our 1969 Dodge Daytona, I got a call from former wrestler, pro-football player and auto-maniac Bill Goldberg. Bill was the host the Bullrun TV show that I was a part of, so when I found out he was building a 1970 Plymouth Superbird in conjunction with Year One, I was obviously curious about the project. Well, the project was unveiled and seeing the car in person just doesn’t do it justice. The guys at Year One worked with Goldberg’s vision of a true Nascar Superbird and created a truly spectacular car. The best part though… no one is keeping this baby as it’s being sold at Barrett-Jackson this January for charity. Check out the video link to get a better idea what I’m talking about.
