Glowing Rotors And Fighting The Night: Western Endurance Racing Championship Round 5

By Rob Krider

Racerboy

The National Auto Sport Association (NASA) Western Endurance Racing Championship (WERC) held Round 5 at Buttonwillow Raceway Park. Drivers punished their brakes in the midst of a dark three hour on-track battle. This was the last round before the championship finale during the 25 Hours of Thunderhill in December. Check out the coverage at Jalopnik. Photo by Vanhap Motorsports Photography.

The Leadfoot Rally: The Olympics of Motorsports

By Rob Krider

Racerboy

Looking for a place to take your CarDomain ride and put it through the paces? How about a lot of different paces, like a drag strip, a road course, a paved oval track, a dirt oval and some off-road rallycross action? The Leadfoot Rally is an event where you can run your car through five totally different events, try to win each, as well as compete for one overall win. Earn enough points through each event and be crowned “The Ultimate Shoe.” You can read all the dirty details on the upcoming event at Jalopnik.

Tony Stewart Races $500 Cars With ChumpCar

By Rob Krider

Racerboy

You read that correctly. Just like some CarDomain members when Tony Stewart doesn’t have his weekends filled with NASCAR he runs the ChumpCar World Series. Tony drove a beater Camaro in the ChumpCar 24 hour race at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) -you can catch all the details at Jalopnik.

ChumpCar also has a little more NASCAR flavor, their schedule has three major NASCAR venues: Texas Motor Speedway, Homestead-Miami and Auto Club Speedway in Southern California -more details at Speed:Sport:Life. The cool part is you don’t have to be a famous racecar driver like Tony Stewart to come out and play, this is an endurance racing series anyone can run with a $500 car, a few friends and a weekend and a set of tires to kill.

Samuel Hubinette’s New Drift Challenger On The Track

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

A Jalopnik reader scored this raw video of Hubinette testing his new Formula Drift Challenger at Adams Motorsports Park this week. There’s a slightly more produced similar video making the rounds, but it’s tarted up with goofy music that obscures the film’s true soundtrack: the guttural roar of that 800 hp, methanol-injected 410. Accordingly, the raw version below is better. Enjoy! Via Jalopnik.

Forum Wars: "Talk Smack, then Hit the Track"

By Rob Krider

Racerboy

We have all probably spent way too much time (at work) surfing different car forums. Some of us have even gotten into knock down drag out fights on the Internet with some Bozo about the power capabilities of the Nissan SR20DE engine. The fact of the matter is, people love to talk trash on car forums. Speed TV has a new show coming out, The Forum Wars presented by Royal Purple, which pits different cars/forums against each other for a drag race and road course shoot out. Internet excuses are over. Put up or shut up. The show will air in early 2010.

See some of the cars and forum match ups on Jalopnik.

Beetleball: Long Beach to Las Vegas

By Rob Krider

Racerboy

Remember the movie Cannonball Run (back when Burt Reynolds had a full head of hair)? It was bad ass cars and madmen drivers on an all out road race across America’s highway system. Well, Beetleball has the same concept, only the bad ass cars have been replaced with air cooled Volkswagens. Good news for the drivers, it’s hard to get a Volkswagen to go fast enough to get thrown in jail. The Beetleball Long Beach to Las Vegas Endurance Rally was run October 3, 2009. Nobody was imprisoned but a few VW motors died trying. You can read coverage (now on Memorex) at Jalopnik.

Jalopnik's Plan to Fix NASCAR

By Austin Knight

Gotadime

Jalopnik has a pretty good plan to “fix” NASCAR. I myself have never enjoyed the sport and often think of it as a waste of fuel and rubber, but perhaps with these adjustments, I would watch it once or twice (when nothing else is on…and I really mean nothing). Take a look at their plans.

Road-worthiness Inspection Fail

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

No, this is not a sneak peak at one of the cars from the upcoming Fast and Furious V. It’s a home-built contraption brought in for a road-worthiness inspection in the UK. Read the full thread and see all the mind-blowing pics over at Barryboys. Via Jalopnik
