Joey Logano Becomes Youngest Sprint Cup Winner

By Jen Dunnaway

It was great to see little Joey Logano take his first Sprint Cup win at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Sunday, even if it was on a rain delay. It seems like it was only yesterday that the bashful rookie was totally stepping in the paint–but now, at 19, he’s replaced Kyle Busch as the youngest NASCAR driver ever to score a win at the Sprint Cup level. While the win owed a lot to crew chief Greg Zipadelli’s pit strategy, Joey’s careful coasting on the fumes of his nearly-empty fuel cell, and of course the dumb luck that brought down the rain at the last moment, I betcha it won’t be Joey’s only victory this season.  Sunday’s race also featured some vicious fender-to-fender racing between Jeff Gordon and Kurt Busch, among other highlights. Little Joey Logano To Take Tony Stewart's Big Seat

By Jen Dunnaway

As you might already know, Tony Stewart is splitting from Joe Gibbs Racing and heading back to Chevies next year, striking out on his own as owner-driver for the team currently known as Haas-CNC. Who better to take his place than 18-year-old Joey Logano, who’s been turning heads this year following his impressive debut in NASCAR’s Nationwide Series back in June? Logano is quite the firecracker, though with NASCAR having finally acknowledged that Toyota is enjoying an unfair advantage (and with Logano’s own Nationwide team having been caught up in the subsequent cheating scandal), it’s unclear whether his early success has been due to prodigious talent or extra horsepower. I guess we’ll know soon enough! More at Scene Daily.
