Way before I started at CarDomain, I drove a 1980 Chevy Custom Deluxe. I didn’t have parking at the time, and was glad the bumpers were big, burly steel jobs that would give worse than they got from all the careless city drivers. This video makes me want to go out and buy another pickup.

0-60 Hits the Oregon Trail Rally!

For this year’s Oregon Trail Rally, 0-60 Magazine hooked up Tein USA, Design Craft and ONI Motorsports and fielded a specially built Scion xD rally car. In their first time out, driver Chris Duplessis and co-driver Ron Zaras placed second in 2WD and 12th overall! Not bad gentlemen! We need more events like this in the States…

Parking enforcement in Santa Monica is no joke. When Kelly Blue Book was being interviewed about new models for a piece on Los Angeles CW affiliate KTLA, an overzealous mater maid began ticketing all ten cars. The reporter tries to tell her that the spots are paid for, but the by-the-book officer keeps right on citing. At 50 bucks a pop, that’s not chump change, but the I don’t think KBB or the CW are going to go broke. Funny stuff…

Today it’s overcast in Los Angeles, and there was a very Seattle-like drizzle coming down as I made my way to the office this morning. I’ll admit that when I first moved here, rain made me pissed off. But now it just makes me glad I don’t have to deal with it all the time—like my friends up in the Northwest do. Anyway, this week’s winner is KustomKiely, who was apparently channeling the 2 Live Crew when he came up with; “Ford’s viewpoint: Face down, ass up.” Not politically correct, but funny. Congrats man! Tune in tomorrow for the next installment of our First Amendment-supporting Caption Contest!

O’Gara Coach: So Much Awesome it Hurts

O’Gara Coach specializes in Aston Martin, Bentley, Bugatti and Rolls-Royce, and the showroom is even more mind-blowing than you’d expect an exotic car dealership in Beverly Hills to be. Seriously, just check out the photo below. A Koenigsegg CCX is on the left, a Bugatti Grand Sport is on the right, toward the center of the shot there’s a Lamborghini Reventon and a Pagani Zonda R, and in the back corner, there’s another Veyon and an LP670 SV. I mean, come on. Aside from SEMA, I’ve never seen so many rare high-dollar exotics in one place, and it was really cool watching the staff shuffle all the million-dollar metal around. One thing that struck me was how mild-mannered the Grand Sport sounded. Apparently, Bugattis are total pussy cats until you mash the throttle, at which point you produce a sonic boom. But even in the midst of such distinguished company, I was totally hypnotized by the track-only Zonda R. It looks like something that escaped from Area 51, and when I closed the carbon fiber door, it was so light I was momentarily disoriented, like if I’d gone to move a boulder and discovered it was made of foam. When it was being pushed into the showroom, one of the folks on hand described it perfectly: “It looks like the Batmobile just did a line of coke.” I wish I’d come up with that. During the Super Trofeo race in the Czech Republic, Giorgio Bartocci crashed his Gallardo LP 560, and was trapped in the car for a minute as it burned. I thought fuel cells were supposed to prevent this kind of thing, and I really thought that the emergency crew would have gotten him out quicker. He sustained broken ribs and a broken leg in the crash, and has second degree burns over 40% of his body. Let’s hope he makes a full recovery. Via Jalopnik
