CarDomain member and Tanzanian rally driver Khalid Bakhressa died in a tragic wreck during a race last month. While his story was largely unknown outside of the United States, CarDomain learned of the loss after receiving an unusual amount of site traffic from internet searches of the driver’s name: Bakhressa had a ride page for his 350Z dating back to when he was based in Florida. At the time of his death, he was driving a Subaru Impreza N12B in the Clubman Rally Championship in Zanzibar; he reportedly crashed, sustaining fatal head trauma, after swerving to avoid a group of village children who had strayed onto the road during the race. Bakhressa was the 22-year-old son of a local tycoon, and had been enjoying promising successes on the East-African rally circuit; he’d been competing well in a number of regional races throughout the 2007 season, beating out 70 other drivers to become champion of the Dar es Salaam Motor Rally back in September.
