Ok, let’s keep the 80s stupidity going. Here’s every single Knight Rider Turbo Boost sequence in one movie. Via Jalopnik

I basically gave up the comics page when Bill Watterson stopped drawing Calvin and Hobbes, but I still get a kick out of This Modern World and a couple of others. Until this morning, I hadn’t seen Scott Meyer’s Basic Instructions, and it’s pretty funny. Today’s installment is called "How to Have a Horrifying Conversation." Anyway, here’s the news:

• The heads of the Big Three are back in front of Congress today, and this time, they brought a plan, instead of just a big bag to haul the loot back to Detroit. But that doesn’t seem to matter much to the public. 61% of folks don’t want to help Detroit. CNN
• Generally, I like tend to like the shows on NBC—Medium is great—more than those on CBS or ABC, so I was surprised to learn it’s fairing so poorly in the ratings. So what does that have to do with cars? Well, it means Knight Rider’s future looks sketchy. LA Times
• Love it or hate it, Honda has been successful at just about everything it’s tried. But "just about everything" doesn’t mean "everything." It looks the company’s F1 team is on the block. GrandPrix 
• As far as excuses go, "God told me to do it" is pretty thin. So the idiot who rammed a San Antonio woman at 100MPH for "not driving like a Christian" should probably get busy coming up with something else. My San Antonio via Jalopnik

To be honest, I could care less about the new incarnation of Knight Rider, but I was a huge fan of the original series. So I was stoked to stumble across the Knight Rider GPS in the mobile electronics hall. It’s exactly like other systems, except the voice that gives you turn-by-turn directions is KITT’s. And while I know that sounds cheesy, I totally ate it up. There are 300 names stored in its memory—sometimes it’s good to be John—and the system will even deliver personalized messages before you start a trip. If you can’t wait to watch the season premiere of Knight Rider—or you’re just super-bored at work—you can watch the entire thing right now. How bad ass does KITT look when he’s on fire? Unfortunately, we can’t embed the video, so you’ll have to head over to Hulu.com to check it out.

CarDomain member MoparRob07 was one of those who entered his car for the Fast and Furious casting call we ran in the blog earlier this year. Though his gorgeous Daytona Charger didn’t make the final cut for that film, our friends at Rich King Casting were so impressed by his ride that they called him back many months later to offer the car a role in the new Knight Rider TV series! Last week they went out to the California desert for some filming, and Rob got a bunch of cool spy shots. Even the "Attack Mode" KITT that Dave blogged last week was in attendance. Check out the very bottom of Page 3 of Rob’s ride page for all the pics!

The 2008 Comic-Con wrapped up this past weekend, and it was there that the new KITT "attack mode" was revealed to the horde of superfans in attendance. Later it was announced that it was voted "Best Vehicle" of Comic-Con, taking the crown against Bond’s DBS and a GI Joe digging contraption.
Personally, I think this thing looks like a bunch of different race cars thrown together and it makes for one confused-looking KITT. The crazy polished blower scoop and rear tires look to have been yanked from an NHRA dragster. The "Car of Tomorrow" chin spoiler and side dump exhaust show signs of NASCAR influence. Then there’s the lambo doors and side scoops that were probably stolen off the set of Fast and Furious. Follow it up with some Bonneville Salt Flats racer wheels and you’ve got a car that might be able to do 377 mph in a straight line, but it sure as hell isn’t turning.

Clearly KITT has come a long way from the old "super pursuit mode," but I can’t help thinking it’s a bit of overkill. What do you think? Am I taking a fictional car too seriously or is this car really just too silly for your average TV action-drama? Nobody has been shy in regard to their feelings about the new Knight Rider, but there haven’t been too many surprises. Of all the comments I read, I have to say I liked Oafman’s best:

I for one enjoyed the pilot. The original show was cheesy and had bad acting so if I hold this new Knight Rider to the same standards as the original it meets expectations. As to the hassle about the car… Anti Mustang people get over yourselves. I have yet to see a well reasoned argument against using a Mustang. (If you really want to know I personally would never drive a Ford again but I am not going to knock the show just because of the make of the car).

One thing I’d bet we can all agree on? This series of outtakes from the original show is funnier than anything in the remake. There’s a little bit of strong language—but probably nothing you haven’t heard out in the garage. Enjoy.

When fans of the original Knight Rider series found out the new KITT was going to be a Mustang, many weren’t pleased. Fortunately for them, the withering reviews Sunday’s movie got would seem to insure that Knight Rider won’t return as weekly series, and that most people will remember KITT as a Firebird. Personally, I don’t think we’ll ever see new Mustangs transformed like this one the guys from Tuner’s Dream found up in Ontario. Check out that interior! Is that impressive or what?

Nobody from CarDomain turned on Knight Rider thinking it was going to be the greatest show ever filmed—which is fortunate. Sean was bothered by the fact that the baddies get a perfect look at Michael and Sarah when they’re driving in front of the casino, but don’t seem to notice, and I found the wooden quality of the acting kind of distracting. The ending also felt rushed, like the director was bored and just wanted to finish up shooting, and the Hoff’s cameo was pretty painful. But overall, it was kind of fun to watch. What did you think? And do you think Knight Rider will come back as a series?
