384 Hours of LeMons, Here We Come!
Atomicalex
Scirocket II did not have the best outing in the April LeMons race at GingerMan, racking up more penalties than were technically permissable. Somehow, we managed to get back on track and finish the race. In anticipation of what might happen in the two upcoming midwest races in October, Chief Perp Jay Lamm picked ten teams to document their experiences in the back-to-back 384 Hour challenge with a super-cool LeMons FlipCam. We made the cut, presumably in the “least promising” category: it seems these guys might have had some bad experiences with VWs in general! We’re taking this mission to heart – I’ll be linking over the vids as the LeMons crew get them posted!

24 Hours of LeMons: The Endurance Race for the Financially and Mentally Challenged
By Rob Krider
Racerboy
You’ve read about it in all the car magazines and you’ve been to the 24 Hours of LeMons website a hundred times, obsessively pouring over the rules. It’s the endurance road racing series for $500 cars. You’ve commented on numerous forums that “someday, if you can get a team together, you want to do LeMons.” Stop blowing bench racing smoke up everybody’s ass. Find a piece of crap car (that runs unlike a piece of crap), make four new friends (one with money, one who can weld, one who can fix motors and one who has a car trailer) and get yourself to the biggest thing happening in the world of motorsports. The 24 Hours of LeMons is absolutely the coolest thing you will ever do in an automobile.
To learn about cost, car preparation, adrenaline factor and how to actually win LeMons, read the rest at Speed Sport Life.

LeMons Scirocket
Atomicalex
It’s a good thing my neighbors are cooler than dry ice. My Detroit proto-LeMons team picked up this beauty for a whopping $150. Considering that the last Scirocco to run in the LeMons threw a rod, we’re thinking we have fate on our side. Nelson Ledges will be a great place to blow up! The cage is already halfway in (with the rest of the tubing in the car and waiting for the welder), and it’s been stripped of offending sound deadening material. It also has a super-funky cutout in the hood. What do you guys and gals think the two-piece wheels are worth? It came with four of them. Are we going to make money on this car? The ralley tyres alone are worth a few dollars.

Watch Out, LeMons!
Atomicalex
Just when you thought the 24 Hours of LeMons couldn’t get any weirder, you were wrong: I’m fielding a team for the Midwest run in 2009. We had our first meeting and buy-in yesterday to try to get ahead of the game. Our name is Team Doing Community Service and the car is MkI VW Jetta with the venerable JH 1.8 litre engine. A pretty bulletproof combo, and our top choice because we collectively own about three cars’ worth of parts for it. Clearly, we’ll be needing a new horn–I doubt the squeeze bulb under the dash will pass tech.

Grassroots Motorsports Is Looking For A Camaro Expert
By Rob
Editor-in-Chief
Grassroots Motorsports is now the official magazine sponsor of the infamous 24 Hours Of LeMons race series. And they are planning to field this Camaro in an upcoming 24 Hours of LeMons. So they’re looking for a Camaro expert to help them in their pursuit of glory. Do you have what it takes? Here’s the word from GRM:
Tim wants somebody who really, truly, deeply knows Camaros, specifically 80s F-bodies. He’s looking for the kind of person that knows that if you take a used toaster element and the right bracket from a 72 Silverado, you gain 5 horsepower. And they have to be plugged in deep into the online Camaro matrix and be able to quickly find an answer to whatever obscure Camaro question he may come up with.
So, if you – or someone you know – want to be on a LeMons team, know everything there is to know about Camaros, and revel in the lunacy of the whole idea, send your info, qualifications, and mental health certificate (as required) to baxter@grassrootsmotorsports.com

Editor's Choice!
By Rob
Editor-in-Chief
I just got my February issue of Grassroots Motorsports in the mail. The GRM crew had already told me about this, but there’s nothing like seeing it in print: CarDomain got a Grassroots Motorsports Editor’s Choice award for 2007! We’re on the same page as 24 Hours of LeMonds, Lemis Hamilton, Bridgestone RE-01R tires and Patrick Long–pretty good company I’d say. So thanks Grassroots Motorsports, and congrats to everyone who helps make CarDomain the #1 auto enthusiast community on the web!

Just in case anyone in the San Diego area is interested. Freezer is included. Might make good candidates for the next 24 Hours of LeMons. Check the Craigslist ad for more pics and details.

Tons Of LeMons Pics!
By Rob
Editor-in-Chief
We just uploaded a ton of pics from the the 24 Hours of LeMons at Thunderhill that Scott took for us. As we mentioned last week, Scott’s team took 12th, and they are planning to run the Fury again (not many cars survive one of these races, let alone two). I also like this pic of the Turd and this cool little 2002. And someone knows how to travel in style. Be sure to check out Scott’s videos, too!
