Movin' On Down: I'm Headed to LA!

By John Coyle

Deputy Editor

13 years ago, I followed a girl I’d know for just three months all the way from Tampa to Seattle, and it was, unquestionably, the best decision I’ve made. Ever. We were together for another three years, and when we broke up, the idea of moving away was ridiculous. I love Seattle to its wet, soggy core, and I’ll miss it and all my friends here immensely—but CarDomain has made me an offer I simply can’t refuse. Monday morning, I’m catching a Virgin America flight to Los Angeles, where I’m going to start my new position as Road Test Editor. To say that I’m excited would be the height of understatement. I am going [expletive deleted] bonkers. LA is the center of world car culture, and I’m going to get to attend amazing events and drive some incredible machines. Honestly? I’m still spinning at the fact that I’m actually moving. Nads and the folks in the LA office say I’m in for some serious culture shock, but I’m prepared, and I’ve already got a place with one of my best buddies. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be writing about adjusting to life in the land of swimming pools and movie stars, so stay tuned, and keep your fingers crossed for me…

Tesla Seattle Open For Business!

By John Coyle

Deputy Editor

Back in October of last year, Rob got invited to go drive the Tesla Roadster, and he was pretty impressed with the little electric hot rod. So I’ve been keeping an eye on the space designated for Tesla’s Seattle dealership—it’s right on my way into the office—for the past few months, and I’m happy to report that it’s open for business! Obviously, there’s a burly waiting list, and there’s still construction going on in the future service area, but I was really pumped to see a  brick-and-mortar representation of this company on my home turf. Hit the jump for a shot of the front of the building.

Happy Birthday: the Blog is Three!

By John Coyle

Deputy Editor

Today marks the CarDomain blog’s third birthday, and since we figure internet and dog years are equivalent, that means our baby is legal to drink. But pouring champagne into the servers isn’t the best idea—hey, live and learn—so we needed another idea about how to celebrate properly, and after some quick brainstorming, Rob put Ryan and I back to work. Well, while watching a Top Gear clip, I randomly mentioned I’d never been to London—and that was all it took. Rob yelled “Friday blog birthday in London,” cranked up the Clash, and before I could even finish my beer, we were headed to the airport for a flight across the pond. Now, CarDomain has a huge following overseas, so putting all the party details on our MySpace page wasn’t the best idea. As you can see from the photo, it got way out of hand, and while Rob and I are only nursing Pacific-sized hangovers, Ryan is currently sobering up in the slammer—because real gangstas can’t run fast. Hopefully he’ll get out in time for our flight. Thanks for reading the blog, we wouldn’t be here without you!

Magnolia Village Car Show Pics Live

By John Coyle

Deputy Editor

This car show in Seattle’s Magnolia neighborhood had been held for years, and it’s become a favorite of local residents, gearhead and non-gearhead alike. While no cars are turned away from this event—there’s no GoodGuys-style pre-1972 rule here—there certainly wasn’t any junk on display. Along with a ’60s-era Ferrari 250 GT, there were a couple of classic Rolls-Royces, a ’30s Dodge truck sporting a new Viper motor, and plenty of sweet custom jobs. All in all, it was a great show, and since it was free, we couldn’t complain about the price. Head over to the events section to check out the photos.

Sneak Peak at Forza 3!

By John Coyle

Deputy Editor

A couple of weeks back,  Ryan and I got a chance to go over and tour the Turn 10 studios, where the developers and testers are putting the finishing touches on Forza 3. Ordinarily, getting out of the office in the middle of the day to go play video games is a sweet enough deal by itself. But the really cool part?  We got to take the tour with drifters Rhys Millen, Dai Yoshihara, and Chris Forsberg, who were all in town for Formula D Seattle! Obviously we were both curious to see how their real driving skills would translate to the virtual world, and we got plenty of opportunities to see them behind the wheel.

Say Goodbye to Groups

By Ryan Porter

IN-N-OUT Editor

I’m sad to announce that we are planning to remove Groups from CarDomain in June. We released Groups in 2007, but it never really caught with the community. There have been a few popular groups, some clever groups and number of off-topic and random groups, but none of them are very active. So we had a choice to make. Do we invest considerable time and energy to try to make this feature a success, or do we continue to focus on our core strength—ride pages and member functionality? We chose the latter. We’re sorry that we have to take away a cool product, but we hope that this step will lead to a better overall experience for all of our members. Stay tuned for more cool features, and of course, we always welcome your input and feedback.

UW Red Square Charity Car Show in Seattle

By Weston Henderson

Weston Henderson

Over the weekend Ryan and I hit up the NorthWest Auto Salon Charity Car Show at the University of Washington’s Red Square. The turnout was good and included some amazing and rare cars. CLK DTM, Scuderia, and a Lambo LM002 just to name a few of the rarest cars on hand. The show helped raise money for the treatment and prevention of child HIV/Aids , so all of the proceeds went to a great cause. Other then that, I will let the pictures speak for themselves! Tons more after the jump!

What's Going On This Weekend???

By Ryan Porter

IN-N-OUT Editor

It’s that time of year. No matter where you live, it seems like there is a car show every weekend! Last weekend was Formula D in Long Beach and this weekend there’s DUB Memphis. For the CarDomain staff here in Seattle, there’s our buddies at Northwest Auto Salon’s UW Charity Car Show. If you live in Seattle, we’ll see you there!

Can’t wait to see this bad boy, too!  Had to stop by NWAS to see it this afternoon!
