We know how you all like to gripe and moan about all the sweet concept cars that’re unveiled every year at the auto shows but will never be available for purchase. Well guess what: they are now–as long as you don’t mind that they’re Lincolns. The 2004 Mark X concept below, the Lincoln version of Ford’s Thunderbird, will be among those put up for auction, along with (in order of appearance after the jump) the 2001 MK9 concept, the 2004 Aviator, the 2005 MKS, and (total hotness) the 2004 Navicross. The only problem: they’re not going to be able to be legally registered to drive in the US, which is really a shame. And I imagine that getting parts for at least some of them might present some problems. See more pics at Carscoop.

This ride has been all over the collectors’ market in the last year or so–most recently last June, it set many tweed caps spinning when it sold at the Leake Auction in Tulsa for a record-setting $1.08 million (read a nasty and indignant editorial scoffing over the Lincoln’s sale here). Aviator Howard Hughes originally purchased this Lincoln K Model V-12 open-top limo in 1936, then fitted it with its weird riveted-aluminum half-fuselage for obscure Howard Hughes reasons: the bulbous silver body has been variously described as (most obviously) an aerodynamic aid, a pod for stashing expensive camera equipment, and a test bed for experimental aircraft components (the rambling eBay seller’s description even links the car’s design to Hughes’s germophobia. Wha..?). In any case, it’s now up for auction at the bargain-basement starting price of $850,000–not bad for this economy, though it’s pretty likely the seller is going to be taking a loss on it. Check out the auction!

If I were to pony up the $12,900 for this 1940 Lincoln Zephyr for sale on Hemmings.com, I’d leave it exactly as is. Sure, these things are supersweet when restored (and completely bitchin’ when rodded the right way), even when you do come across a Zephyr in the wild, you’re not likely to come across one with such patina. From the seller’s description:

1940 Lincoln Zephyr coupe. V -12 3 speed. Runs and drives ! Needs restored. Newer interior. Very Solid car!

So would you leave it alone or restore it? See more pics at Hemmings

I’m assuming somebody had a plan here. They didn’t just have a four-door ‘87 Lincoln Continental and decided to have at it with a Sawzall. No, they wanted to build a two-door version from the start and christen it a contemporary Zephyr. Trouble is, the ad copy for this Zephyr, currently for sale on Hemmings.com (for $14,000 out of Beaufort, South Carolina), doesn’t clue us in on the who, why, and when.

This beautifully customed Lincoln has been custom built from a 4-dr Continental into a 3-window coupe. 5.o V8.

I can’t mention the client right now, but we shot in Van Nuys and Glendale in over 100 degree heat with a 1st AD (Assistant Director) that seemed to get his jollies out of yelling at people. ‘Scuze me, did I say yelling? I meant to say “Lecturing,” then yelling.

When you do a commercial, there are key things that are essential. Like, if something goes wrong, there has to be a Medic on set. By law. UNLESS, the production is too cheap to pay for one and not tell anyone. Mistake #1.

Then, in the heat (and wonderful air from all the fires we’re having) using the yelling tactic to get people to do what you need them to do only makes them do it worse forming the stress, and…. Mistake #2.

Then, people started to get hurt.

Grip Dood #1 slices his head open in a grip truck on a piece of steel. Ouch. Off to the hospital. Grip Dood #2 breaks his wrist doing grip stuff. Ouch. Off to the hospital again. Stunt Actor gets stung in the mouth by a bee in his 7up. Lip swells to gargantuan proportions. Out for the count. Am I done? Oh, no… not even close.

Actor #2, playing a scene on the tennis court gets nailed by a tennis ball,.. close to his OWN balls. Gets pissed, walks off the set. “Why is the Director beaning me with balls?” …was his only comment. That was after he threw a key prop up into a tree to retrieve a frisbee, only to have that key prop get stuck 20 feet up. THEN, he gets bitten by a red ant on the hand. You startin’ to see a pattern?

Am I done? No. Not just yet. Lead Actor #1 is setting up a scene as a food stylist walks up to heat a piece of food on a table set with a steamer. A steamer shoots out scalding hot steam to instantly heat food. Sometimes water. And in this case, a lot of water. And,… as she trips towards the table….

Water shoots out of the tip and lands on the arm of Lead Actor #1!! Giving him 2nd degree burns! Off to the hospital. And what did I do as all this was happening over 2 days? And what does this have to do with cars?

Nice Lincoln, eh? Sweet.

I’m sure the small-town limo service that currently owns the car will figure out how to turn it into a cube of steel and a new-car voucher if it doesn’t meet its reserve price.
