Footage From the goldRush Starting Line!

By John Coyle

Deputy Editor

Despite the presence of some of the fastest machines on the planet—an LP640, 430 Scuderia, and Gallardo Superleggera—there were reportedly no arrests on this year’s goldRush. One of the only “incidents” involved police pulling over the a slew of rally cars because the gaggle of sexy sheet metal was causing other drivers to become distracted, and the officers just asked them to spread out. From what we’ve heard, the only accident was a fender bender due to a driver attempting to pilot his Aston Martin through gridlock while texting his girlfriend. Nice work, buddy! Look out for the gold LM002 and enjoy the clip.

Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano vs. Lamborghini Murcielago LP640: Which Would You Choose?

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

It’s a Ferrari-Lambo rematch! Back in December 2007 we pitted an F430 against the Gallardo and the F430 crushed the Lambo. So this is Lamborghini’s chance to get even. The front engine RWD 599 has a 6.0 liter V12 that puts out 620 hp. The mid-engine AWD Murcielago has a 6.5 liter V12 that puts out 640 hp. The Ferrari weighs in at 3,482 pounds while the Lambo weighs 3,670 pounds. The Lambo costs a tad more, but once you get over $300,000, who’s counting? Both cars are fast as hell and look hot. So, which would you choose?

Lambo LP640 vs. Nissan GT-R

Since the cars were rolling at the start of the race, you can’t really call this a straight up drag race, but it’s still interesting to see how Godzilla and the Italian Stallion match up. Enjoy.

This Just In: New on the Net

Well, I’m back from Bullrun, and I while I had amazing time, I feel like I could sleep for a week. But hey, nobody said that assignment was going to be easy. Anyway, here’s the news:

  • Apparently, Max Mosely—AKA: Nazi orgy guy—had been told that some enemies were gunning for him, but he still didn’t curtail his hyper-freaky sessions with prostitutes. I still wonder if McLaren honcho Ron Dennis was involved. Times of London
  • Lotus has released the a teaser pic of the Lotus Eagle, and even though there’s a lot left to the imagination, you have to love how aggressive the front end looks. World Car Fans
  • How bad were auto sales in June? We’ll know for sure tomorrow, but those with any vested interest in the financial condition of the Big Three, should be afraid. Very afraid. Freep
  • Those worried that the standard interior on Lamborghini’s new LP640 might be a bit on the cheap side can rest a little easier. The Italian Stallion will be available in a Versace edition, which is sure to be dead sexy. Auto Express

Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 is #1

By Rob

Over fifty folks tried out the Supercar Finder. I just did a quick tally and almost half of you ended up with the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640. Not bad. The Pagani Zonda F was the next most popular selection. All the other cars came in a distant third. I noticed that just about everyone seemed fairly pleased with the cars they were given.

Take it to the Track: Lambo Edition!

By John

First, let me say I don’t think anyone should do this. But hypocritical as it may be, I found this series of high-speed runs in a Lamborghini LP640 pretty compelling. The shots of it blowing past the stationary cameras are simply mind-blowing, and the sound of that monster V12 on full afterburner gave me goose bumps. The only thing which takes away from this clip is that he’s pulling this stunt on a public road, and putting the lives of innocent drivers at risk. You’d think somebody with enough jingle in their pocket to pick up one of these rockets wouldn’t sweat renting an airstrip for a day, or at least invest some time in finding a more deserted highway—there have to be some better location/time choices for this kind of thing. On the last of the runs, he hits an indicated 219, which he claims is a new record, although it looks like he just tied this one. Record or not, if this dude is ever identified, this footage will definitely earn him some felony charges.
