The Last Collectible ‘New Edge’ Pony: The Mach 1
powerTV Media
The year was 1969. Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper and Jack Nicholson starred in the biker classic, Easy Rider. More than 450,000 people converged on Bethel, New York for the Woodstock Music and Art Fair. But, there’s more. The Mustang Mach 1 takes to the streets to do battle with Camaros and Chargers — armed with the 428 Cobra Jet engine and a menacing, soon-to-be famous “shaker” hoodscoop.
The Mach 1 Sportsroof production model took on a definitive drag racing theme with its aggressive flat-black hood, integrated rear spoiler, front air dam, and racing hood tie-downs. The interior featured “comfort weave” bucket seats and a three-spoke “Rim Blow” steering wheel. Follow the jump to read more about this amazing machine.

Are You Lucky To Be Alive?
By Rob Einaudi

I’ve had a few close scrapes and have been involved in some nasty collisions, but I don’t know anyone who has had a wreck like this and lived to tell the tale. Dave owned a beautiful Mach 1 428 Cobra Jet in the early 80s. One December day shortly after switching to studded tires for the winter, he went into a corner carrying a bit too much speed and hit the cable guardrail. He woke up a minute later with two guys yelling at him, amazed that he was alive. He had slammed his face into the steering wheel pretty hard, but otherwise he was ok. Truly amazing! See pics of the car before the accident after the jump!

The Lost Car Registry
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
Just about every car nut I know has a story about a car that got away. A car that was sold under financial duress or in a moment of stupidity. For me it was a 383-powered ’70 Fury III convertible which I sold when I was broke in the mid-90s. Every wonder where your old car is now, and if you could get it back? Well, the Lost Car Registry is here to help.
The car of the month this month is Keith’s dad’s old 1969 Ford Mustang Mach I. The original invoice is pictured below. Ten years after buying it heavily optioned, with a four-speed and 428 Cobra Jet, Keith’s dad sold it for less than $1,000. Where is it now? If you know, get in touch with Keith and help him out.

Fords At Carlisle: First-Time Winner!
By Jen Dunnaway

Lloyd Brown had never entered a car in the All-Ford Nationals before, so he was stoked to win first place in Mach Mustangs with his 100% original 1969 Mach 1. It’s an older restoration, with a 351 Windsor topped by a 600 cfm Holley 4-barrel and the original shaker hood scoop. And yep, that paint is a factory color: Gulf Stream Aqua. Congrats on the win, Lloyd!

Basket Case Rescue: 1978 Mustang Mach 1
By Jen

Jason’s Mach 1 has seen its share of adversity, includingget thisa vengeful ex-roommate who was secretly misting the car with water while it was sitting in bare metal. This tough Mustang has since gotten a roll cage, 5-lug conversion, nitrous, and a 302 that was "pulled from a junker and rebuilt numerous times"and, now rust-free, it looks positively vibrant in Ford Grabber Blue. Be sure to stop by Jason’s ride page for the great story of this former beater’s transformation.
