Today’s photo of the day is from Corey’s 1980 Chevy Malibu ride page. He shot this and a bunch more pics last month at an abandoned factory in Winston Salem, North Carolina.

Photo of the Day
By Jen Dunnaway

Today’s photo briefly appeared on EIJesselok’s new ride page for his ’79 Malibu wagon, but it doesn’t seem to be there anymore. The big rims look just seems to work on late-70′s, early-80′s Chevies when it’s done right, don’t you think? Keep those Photo of the Day tips coming!

By Fireball Tim

There I was, tooling around in a silly orange Camaro, when I hit traffic on PCH in Malibu. Why?
‘Cause some rich dood with a Ferrari decided to park right in the middle of the highway! Can’t you believe it!!??? I mean, the noive….
May have had something to do with the fact that he got WHAM, BAM THANKYOU MA’AM’D from the rear. I figure it’s about $50K work of work. Maybe I shoulda left my card?

Fireball Hanging with Laird Hamilton and a Beast…
By Fireball Tim
Movie Car Design Master
So, off I went up into to town to have coffee with my buddy Ted Silverberg at the local Starbucks. As I pulled into the parking lot, I was nearly run over by another buddy of mine, Mr. SuperSurfer and Waterman Laird Hamilton. You know when Laird’s around because his Hummer is way bigger than anyone else.
This is not a show truck. This monster does the real deal and is always dirty. And since Laird travels the world doing things that no one else would ever consider, this car is all him. Check THIS out. Yes, that’s Laird. Heart of stone cold adrenaline, plus coffee. And you thought I was nuts…

Now, Fireball's Seen Everything
By Fireball Tim
Movie Car Design Master
I live in Malibu. Yes, movie stars, expensive cars, small dogs with diamond collars. Yea, I know what you’re thinking… “If only I could have a diamond collar.” Yea, don’t hide it. No? You don’t want one? Well, then you’re like me… ’cause that’s just plain stupid.
On the weekends, Malibu becomes a haven for the insane. Drivers, gawkers, paparazzi, tourists and yes, cars of all sorts. But this past weekend was unusual as I’ve never seen this before. A SUSHI ROACH COACH.
Imagine the great food this thing has. Sashimi Bugs… California Roach Rolls… Terayaki Sow Bugs. Mmmm. And, at only 42 bucks a roll, it’s a deal. So, get on down here…
Oh, but the day didn’t end there. Oh no… In came Dennis Woodruff’s “Dumb Car,” Angeline’s Pink Corvette (She wanted $10 bucks to take a photo of it. Pst…whatever Pinky) Then a slew of slow exotics due to the Chippy waiting for them. Looks like he was gunnin’ someone, but he was really just sleeping. Plus a few classic beasts, oh and the Space Shuttle landed. My dogs loved that.
All in all, it was a day unlike most days in this town. Come visit. Just bring your checkbook and American Express Black Card. And stay away from Ryan O’Neill if you see him. He’s not in a very good mood these days…

Wild Customized Creations from GM at Barrett-Jackson
By Jim Brennan
UDMan
There are always wild customized creations built by the car companies, to gauge the reaction to the potential car buying public. Some have been quite successful, while others are somewhat lacking as far as design, execution, or even taste. Here are five different examples of some wild GM creations, that are now being offered at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale this month.

1974 454 Malibu with Hurst 4 Speed
By Rob Einaudi

How cool is this pristine ’74 Malibu spotted at Lowe’s Motor Speedway by Jim Donnelly of Hemmings? Yes, 454s were pretty anemic in 1974, but you gotta love the taxi cab interior with the factory four speed floor shifter. Two more pics after the jump.

MAZDA6 Beats the Malibu on CarDomain
By Rob Einaudi

The Mazda took an early lead and managed to hold off the Chevy, winning this week’s Showroom Showdown by a 6-to-5 margin. It’s definitely a sharp looking car. If you have ideas for future showdowns, post ‘em below!

MAZDA6 vs. Chevy Malibu: Which Would You Choose?
By Rob
Editor-in-Chief
This week is the battle of the Camry fighters. Ryan Douthit just reviewed the new Mazda6 and I did a real quicky review of the Malibu hybrid (Porter still owes me a longer review on the Malibu, since he actually spent some time with the car). For this showdown, let’s compare the V6 models. The Mazda’s 3.7 liter V6 puts out 272 hp, and Chevy’s 3.6 liter V6 puts out 252 hp. Both cars are only available with 6-speed automatics, and come in under $30k nicely equipped. Which would you choose?
