Buick Grand National-Powered RX-7

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

The seller threw out the junk rotary engine that came with this RX7 and started from scratch. The little 2800-lb Mazda is now powered by the same 4.1L six cylinder that Buick ran in the early Grand Nationals, topped off by a Turbonetics T70 along with methanol injection and a Dodge Viper rear end geared to 3.08. Ten-second quarter-mile runs and 30 mpg on the highway? Not bad. Check out the auction here.

BRE Is Back

By David Wallens

Grassroots Motorsports

Back in the late ’60s and early ’70s, Brock Racing Enterprises was a dominant force in SCCA racing. Their familiar red, white and blue Datsuns put in stellar performances in Production-class and Trans-Am competition. Their 510s were so tough, in fact, that some credit them with ending the small-bore Trans-Am series.

While, those colors are back. Former BRE driver John Morton will wear the team’s scheme in the SCCA Pro Racing Playboy MX-5 Cup race held at the Speedfest at the Classic Motorsports Mitty. The Mazdas will share the weekend’s schedule with HSR historic racers April 29-May 2 at Road Atlanta. Details: themitty.com.
